Two women reportedly drugged and raped a male hitchhiker in Polokwane, Limpopo province, South Africa. The victim was hospitalised after he faced the alleged assault by the middle-aged "sperm bandits".

The women forced him to drink an unknown substance at gunpoint before he was gangraped, the police said.

"After the ordeal it is alleged they drove further with the victim and dropped him off in a secluded area near Tzaneen CBD, where he proceeded to the Tzaneen Police Station and reported the matter", police spokesman Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe was quoted by local paper Capricorn Voice as saying.

The condition of the victim remains critical and no arrests have been made yet.

People have been warned by the police to avoid hitchhiking in the region in order to avoid falling victim to any such roadside crimes. Everyone has been advised to opt for a reliable mode of transportation.

"The public is urged to use reliable public transport at all times to prevent these kind of heinous incidents from happening," Ngoepe was quoted by the Sun as saying.

"Both motorists and pedestrians who use these spots, are vulnerable to these sort of criminals where serious criminal activities, such as carjackings, murders, rapes and armed robberies, are often generated," he added.

A similar incident had been reported three months ago: Three women had gangraped a male teacher in Zimbabwe.

The teacher was reportedly kidnapped by the women for his sperm and then dumped by the roadside. The sperm of the victim was reportedly sold by the attackers as a token of luck.

Such a crime first made news in 2011, when motorists travelling on a road between Gweru and Harare were attacked by these so-called "sperm bandits."

An arrest was made at a roadblock, in which three women were caught with 31 semen-filled condoms.

In another incident that took place in 2016. A man was apparently abducted in Bulawayo by three women, who raped him and fled with his semen.

Another incident took place in Bulawayo in February, when a male teacher reportedly fell prey to four sperm bandits while he was on his way. The women apparently drugged him after abduction and gangraped him.
