LS Speaker Mahajan final arbiter on LOP issue: M Venkaiah Naidu

Vizag, June 15 (ANI): Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday said that Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan is having a look at all past conventions and precedents before deciding on the method to choose a Leader of the Opposition. He also said that she is consulting with experts on the issue. He also advised the Congress Party and its supporting parties to stay calm. Naidu also quoted the prime minsiter's speech in the parliament to remind the Congress that it does not have numbers to stake a claim for the post of Leader of the Opposition. Naidu also went back in history to say that there have been many occasions when there was no Leader of the Opposition, and asked Congress to explain as to why the rules should be bent for it.

New technology designed to carry out rescue operations in Mandi

Mandi, June 15 (ANI): Engineers from southern India have devised two new technologies, SONAR and LIDAR, to carry out further search operations of the missing students who drowned in Beas River of Himachal Pradesh. 24 engineering students of a private engineering college of Hyderabad were swept away when the waters of river Beas suddenly spiked dangerously high following a release from the reservoir of 126 MW Larji hydropower project on June 08. Antony Leyon Felix, an engineer, said the two technologies are based on laser pulse-recognition.

Congress continues protest over power and water crisis

New Delhi, June 15 (ANI): Entering fourth day of its protest against power and water crisis in the national capital, Congress staged a protest in Delhi on Sunday. Congress protester said that PM Narendra Modi who talked about bringing down inflation is not acting and that the continuous crisis of power and water has aggravated the troubles for the residents of Delhi. Meanwhile, BJP leader Vijender Gupta said that this is just a political stunt by the Congress to encash the issue for their benefit and that centre is doing everything possible in the matter.

Bhutan flight makes emergency landing at Kolkata airport

Kolkata, June 15 (ANI): A Royal Bhutan Airlines flight whose windshield cracked during its journey from Paro to Mumbai was forced to make an emergency landing in Kolkata on Sunday. All the passengers and crew members on board are said to be safe. The captain of the flight sought permission of the ATC for emergency landing as the aircraft suffered windshield crack during the flight, said an official at NSC Bose International Airport.

Thousands of kids line up Thimphu streets to welcome Modi

Thimphu, June 15 (ANI): Thousands of school kids have lined the route from Paro Airport to Thimphu, armed with Indian and Bhutanese flags, to greet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday soon after his arrival from New Delhi on a two-day official visit. 47 day fish trawling ban commences in Kerala coast

Kochi, June 15 (ANI): Kerala fisherman will have to temporarily put their fishing nets to rest, as the annual 47 days ban on fishing using motorised trawlers in Kerala began at midnight on Saturday. Most of the heavy motorised deep sea fish trawlers have come back and will now be anchored at their respective harbours during the 47-day long ban period that will be on till July 31. The annual ban is likely to drive up fish prices. Officials from fisheries department said the ban might be increased to 60 days if required.

BJP delegation visits Kolkata to investigate attack on party workers

Kolkata, June 15 (ANI): BJP delegation on Sunday visited Kolkata in order to investigate the violence unleashed on BJP workers in West Bengal. Congress leader's son shot dead in Amethi

Amethi, June 15 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Congress leader Jang Bahadur Singh's son, Mahendra Pratap Singh was shot dead by unidentified men in Amethi giving the Congress constituency a jolt. Superintendent of Police (SP) Hira Lal said that the assailants in a Bolero fired on the windscreen and on the side of the Qualis car while it was travelling on the stretch between Raniganj road and Waris road. Mahendra was a former chairman of Jamo Block and his family members have accused Akshay Pratap alias Gopal Ji for the killings.

BJP leader's body found tied in car at Baheri-Nainital Highway

Baheri, June 15 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rakesh Kumar Rastogi who had gone missing on Friday evening, was found dead in his car on Baheri-Nainital Highway under mysterious circumstances. The body of Rastogi, the divisional vice-president of BJP's Nainital unit, was found tied with a nylon rope inside Santro car, leading to suspicion that he had been murdered and his body is sent for postmortem. BJP leader Rakesh Tyagi demanded that those involved in the killing of Rastogi be nabbed within 24 hours, failing which the party would take to the streets.
