AIADMK stage protest against Sri Lankan govt over Jayalalithaa- Modi article

Chennai, Aug 03 (ANI): AIADMK on Sunday staged protest against Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse in Chennai city of Tamil Nadu. The protest came after the officials of Sri Lankan government defence ministry published an article ‘how meaningful are Jayalalithaa's love letters to Narendra Modi'. Protesters carried black flags, shouted slogans and stepped on Rajapakse's photograph, showing anger against the neighbouring nation. The agitated protesters said that state chief minister J Jayalalithaa has been doing a lot for the welfare of the fishermen in Tamil Nadu and such 'scandalous article' won't be accepted.

Bihar govt ready with all measures water level increases in Kosi River: Vijay Chaudhary

Patna, Aug 03 (ANI): As a flood like situation arose in Bihar with the increase in water level in the River Kosi, state Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said that all safety measures are undertaken. He said that he along with the state Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi will visit the spot to take the aerial view of the situation. Chaudhary also said that the Nepal government is ready to help in whatever way they can to free the flow of water. The state government has so far evacuated 20,000 people living along the embankment of the Kosi River as a 10-metre high wall of water is expected to sweep down the river from Nepal soon, officials said.

Condition of 18 children worsens in thane hospital due to medicinal reaction

Thane, Aug 03 (ANI): The condition of 18 children worsened on Saturday in the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Thane after they were injected medicines by a hospital nurse. Within no time, there was hue and cry in the children ward as the patients started shivering and vomiting. The CMO of the hospital has said that an enquiry is being initiated to find out the reason.

PM Narendra Modi meets Jeet Bahadur's family in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, Aug 03 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met his godson Jeet Bahadur's family members in Kathmandu city of Nepal. Modi had met estranged Bahadur yars ago, and then decided to take care of the boy's education and living. He also started speaking Gujarati. The prime minister located the boy's family a few years ago and on his two-day official visit to Nepal, he decided to bring Bahadur along and to meet his family. Earlier, PM Modi tweeted saying, "On a personal note my Nepal visit is very special. Years ago I met a child from Nepal, Jeet Bahadur who didn't know where he was headed".

Congress protests in Bangalore against Natwar Singh's book

Bangalore, Aug 03 (ANI): Congress party workers in Karnataka took to streets in Bangalore on Sunday to protest against the revelations of the book by Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi's confidant, Natwar Singh. In the autobiography "One Life is Not Enough", Singh paints an unflattering picture of the 67-year old Congress party head, labelling her as at-times "Machiavellian" leader who has been "coarsened" by politics. On Sunday, workers of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) shouted slogans against Singh and rubbished claims made in the book.

Uttarakhand employs more women in tea garden

Nainital, Aug 03 (ANI): In a bid to empower women and make them independent, a state-run tea garden of Uttarakhand decided to raise women workforce in its tea gardens. The tea garden of Uttarakhand government in Ghorakhal region of Nainital district, employes mostly women, who do most of the work in the gardens, from plucking tea leaves, cutting branches to processing them in factory. A female worker, Jeewanti Devi, said salaries are given on time and they do not face any problems. There are 180 women employed in the government run plantations in the district. Manager of Organic Ghorakhal Tea Factory, NC Pandey, said the effort was to make women self reliant.

BJP blames Congress for civil services issue

New Delhi, Aug 03 (ANI): BJP spokesperson, Nalin Kohli, on Sunday blamed former Congress party-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government for the ongoing civil services row. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) aspirants have been protesting vociferously against the CSAT examination introduced in 2011 and demanded that it should be made easy for rural students. Meanwhile, Congress leader, Rashid Alvi, said the central government is unnecessarily delaying a situation that can be easily prevented. The UPSC has reportedly communicated to the government that scrapping or postponing the 2014 CSAT examination could invite litigation.

Bihar Flood Threat: Politicos urge for taking measures in advance

New Delhi, Aug 03 (ANI): As a flood alert in Bihar was issued followed by evacuation of thousands of people in the wake of a massive landslide in Nepal, politicos on Sunday urged for taking proper measures in advance to ensure minimal damage. The state government has so far evacuated 20,000 people living along the embankment of the Kosi River as a 10-metre high wall of water is expected to sweep down the river from Nepal soon, officials said. Over one lakh people are expected to be evacuated by today evening.

PM Modi reaches Nepal, receives Guard of Honour

Kathmandu, Aug 03 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday arrived in Nepal's capital Kathmandu for a two-day official visit. Modi was received by Nepalese Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, senior ministers and the Indian Ambassador Ranjit Rae at the airport. The government of Nepal presented a guard of honour for Modi, leading a 112 member delegation which includes key ministers, senior government officials, business leaders as well as journalists. Modi will be holding talks with his counterpart Sushil Koirala and meet other political leaders.

PM Modi reaches Nepal: Politicos hope for strengthened ties

New Delhi, Aug 03 (ANI): Political leaders on Sunday expected strengthened bilateral ties as PM Narendra Modi reaches Nepal for his 2-day visit. BJP leader Yogi Adityanath said that international relations had been weakened in the last 10 years but now with Modi as the PM they will again strengthen. New Delhi, Aug 3 (ANI): Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinappa, created history as the duo won a historic gold medal in women's doubles squash for India at the Commonwealth Games 2014. Flood threat in Bihars Kosi river, People move to safer locations

Bihar, Aug 03 (ANI): A huge evacuation drive has been launched in eight districts of Bihar and the state government has been put on high alert due to the Kosi flood threat. Bihar Government has started taking action for evacuation of people living in villages lying within the embankment area in 22 panchayats of Supaul district and other seven districts of Bihar. Relief camps including cattle relief camps are being organised for the evacuated families.

Politicos give mixed response to judges remark on introducing Hindu religious books in first grade

Ahmedabad/New Delhi, Aug 3 (ANI): A remark by a judge of Supreme Court stating that mythological texts of Mahabharata and Bhagwad Gita should be introduced in the academic curriculum for first standard students instead of in high school drew mixed response. Addressing an international conference, Justice A.R. Dave said that if in a democratic country everybody is good, then they would naturally elect someone who is very good and that person will never think of damaging anyone. He proposed that the Gita and the Mahabharata be introduced to students at a very early stage.
