New Delhi, Aug 27 (ANI): Tara Sahdeo, who alleged that her husband Ranjeet Singh Kohli alias Rakibul Hussain, beat her and forced her to convert to Islam after they got married, demanded CBI enquiry in the case on Wednesday. The accused husband of Tara Sahdeo case, was arrested on Tuesday night in a joint operation by Delhi and Ranchi Police. Flood in Assam inundates wildlife in Kaziranga National Park

Golaghat, Aug 27 (ANI): Flood water from river Brahmaputra inundated major parts of a wildlife sanctuary, Kaziranga National Park (KNP) and rose to danger level in many areas of Golaghat district of Assam. The park authorities have strengthened security as poachers take advantage of the floods to kill animals, particularly one-horned rhinos which, during the floods, stray outside the park. The rhinos and other animals normally go towards the Karbi Anglong Hills looking for dry, higher grounds. The water level has almost inundated the entire parkland causing most of the wild animals to stray over Karbi Hills, making their lives vulnerable to poachers and speeding vehicles. Aug 27, 2014

Tara Sahdeo case: Husband arrested for trying to convert wife's religion

New Delhi, Aug 27 (ANI): Ranjit Kohli alias Rakibul Hussain, the accused husband of Tara Sahdeo case, was arrested on Tuesday night in a joint operation of Delhi and Ranchi Police. The police is taking the accused for a medical test and thereafter to the Dwarka court for further proceedings. Tara had alleged that Ranjeet Singh Kohli, beat her and forced her to convert to Islam after they got married in July in her home state of Jharkhand. She claimed that he posed as a Hindu and that she later realized his real name was Rakibul Hussain. The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Jharkhand had investigated Tara's allegations. Gas leak in abandoned factory in Asansol kills 2 women, leaves over 30 ill

Asansol, Aug 27 (ANI): Two women died and over 30 others were reported sick after inhaling a poisonous gas that leaked from a closed factory in West Bengal. Among the people hospitalised, a child was also critically affected due to the leakage which took place at the abandoned godown of the factory in Asansol city on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Biswajit Ghosh said they have not been able to identify the source of the gas yet as investigation is in process. Gas emanating from the long time closed factory caused severe eye and nose burning and also led to breathing problems within few minutes for the people residing in the nearby area. A fire official in-charge, Samim Yadav said the stinging smell made even the fire officials sick. Aug 27, 2014

New Delhi, Aug 27 (ANI): As India witnessed a break in the continuous ceasefire violation by Pakistan on Wednesday, BSF Director General DK Pathak said that they have received a request of flag meeting by Pakistan. Pathak said that they are trying to resolve the issue as soon as possible. This came after Pakistan said no to India's initiation for flag meeting with its neighbour for about 16 times. Mumbai, Aug 27 (ANI): Former Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan received farewell by state cabinet staffs and ministers at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai on Wednesday. Sankaranarayanan also received guard of honour during the event. Present at the occasion were ministers and state Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan who bid farewell to the former governor. Sankaranarayanan resigned soon after he was transferred to Mizoram by the NDA government for his remaining tenure, which had to end in 2017. SC dismisses petition on appointment of tainted ministers, says its call of framers of Constitution

New Delhi, Aug 27 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed petition seeking the removal of Cabinet ministers with criminal background. The SC said that it is the call of the ‘framers of Constitution’ or the Prime Minister and the Chief Ministers of the state to see who they are appointing. The petition was heard by a bench comprising of the Chief Justice of India and five other judges. The Supreme Court has however clarified its stand on ministers with criminal background saying that, "Those in conflict with the law and involved in offences of moral turpitude and corruption should not be allowed to discharge duty as ministers".
