Beef ban, mollywood celebs, Aju varghese, vineeth sreenivasan
Aju Varghese, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Tovino Thomas, Shaan Rahman and many other Mollywood celebrities have reacted against beef ban in India.Facebook

The Narendra Modi-led government on Friday, May 26, issued a ban on the sale of cattle for slaughter to prevent cruelty towards animals in India a day before the beginning of the Ramadan season. According to a notification by ministry of environment, forest and climate change, calves, cows, buffaloes and camels can only be sold to farmers now.

Beef has always been a part of the diet for people in Kerala, irrespective of their religious beliefs, and the news regarding the ban has received a massive backlash from people. Keralites protested against the central government's rule by having the red meat on the same day and sharing its photos on social media.

Many celebrities, including Vineeth Sreenivasan, Tovino Thomas, Aju Varghese, Shaan Rahman, Roopesh Peethambaran, Parvathy T, Sayanora Philip, Krishna Prabha, Vivek Ranjit, Kani Kusruti, RJ Arun, RJ Sooraj and Shameer Muhammed, have also come forward to react against the beef ban. The reaction of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has brought a big relief for Keralites, who strongly believe that beef should not be banned in the state.

"What all can I eat in my country without getting arrested? What all can I eat from which all states? What all animal names can I say from which all taluks and panchayats? Can someone give me a list? I am super obedient and tailor made for today's India.. if I have offended anybody, I am super apologetic already.. [sic]," actor-director Vineeth Sreenivasan shared on his Facebook page.

Actor-director Roopesh Peethambaran has suggested that if beef is banned under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, then other animals like chicken, goat, fish should also be banned in the country.

Meanwhile, the team of the latest Malayalam movie, Godha, has also released a special video featuring Tovino Thomas that shows him explaining how to make a beef dish. And yes, it has gone viral on social media!

If Beef is Banned under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, then Chicken, Goat, fish etc should be banned as well!!! I don't think the government has got the balls to do that!!-

Vivek Ranjit

Beef is an emotion! And Tovino Thomas beautifully explains that in this terrific scene from Basil Joseph's Godha!

I will recommend the state government to have a referendum among its people and according to people's wish declare autonomy as a federal state inside the Union of India. It is time to become federal states.
