Contaminated Water Making Life Difficult for People of PoK

Muzaffarabad, PoK, December 02, 2014: Despite being endowed with abundant water resources, PoK is plagued by an acute contamination of its water bodies leading to water shortages and other health issues. With natural sources drying up or being declared unfit for human use, many in capital Muzaffarabad have had to negotiate treacherous terrain to fetch water from far off areas. Many depend on the local administration for drinking water. But residents allege that in the light of no response from government the problem manifests, year after year. With 86 percent of water being declared unfit for consumption, the problem is becoming grave by the day. Water borne diseases like dysentery, cholera and typhoid are common complaints among the local population. The Neelum Valley Project was intended to solve the problem of water scarcity in the Himalayan region, but much of the water harnessed here, has been diverted to the big cities of Pakistan. The erratic monsoons have led to a dip in the water table. The drainage from surrounding areas has polluted several lakes too. Locals say the water supply is infected by the sewer water.

Japanese firms take lead in electronics and transportation technology

Tokyo, Dec 02 (ANI): A Japanese multinational provider of IT services and products, NEC, hosted the C and C User Forum and iEXPO 2014 at Tokyo International Forum recently. The two-day expo was attended by some 24,000 visitors. Under a new brand message "Orchestrating a brighter world" the annual event is designed for a deeper understanding of NEC's solutions for society. The exhibition showcased the latest NEC Group products and solutions, which are aimed at the realization of social values such as safety, security, efficiency, and equality that are essential for people in modern society. Visitors were introduced to around 100 exhibits and lectures on a wide array of solutions, experienced the leading-edge network and computing technologies, wide range of products, services, and know-how developed at NEC for many years. Government airlifts injured soldiers from Maoist attack spot in Sukma

Sukma, Dec 2 (ANI): The union government, on Tuesday (December 02), airlifted security personnel, who were injured during Maoist attack in central state of Chhattisgarh. Maoist guerrillas ambushed a paramilitary patrol in Chhattisgarh on Monday (December 01), killing 14 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men and injured other 12 in the biggest rebel attack this year, chief minister Raman Singh said. The attack took place in remote Sukma district, in the jungle of Chhattisgarh, where members of the CRPF had been sent to flush the rebels out of their base. The injured were admitted to a hospital in state capital Raipur. The Maoists seek the overthrow of the Indian state and have operated for decades across a wide swathe of central and eastern India.

Student union protests government's decision to swap territory with Bangladesh

Jorhat, Dec 2 (ANI): The All Assam Student Union (AASU) on Tuesday protested the Indian government's decision to swap territory with Bangladesh in northeast state of Assam. India has inched closer to settling a long-simmering border dispute with Bangladesh, possibly signaling a softer line from Prime Minister Narendra Modi than when he was in the opposition. A parliamentary committee has urged the government to table a constitutional amendment that would pave the way for a land swap deal that Bangladesh and India have been negotiating for years. However, the AASU threatened to organize a state-wide sit-in protest in all the district headquarters of Assam, if the decision is not withdrawn.

Another video of Rohtak girls thrashing molesters goes viral

New Delhi, Dec 02 (ANI): Another video of the Rohtak girls who thrashed three youths who were harassing them on a roadways bus, has gone viral. The new video uploaded on social networking site Facebook shows the girls beating up a boy in a park. The girls, Arti Kumar and Pooja, have confirmed that the new video doing the rounds on social media as well as on TV news channels also features them. The girls claimed that the incident recorded in the new video occurred approximately a month ago.
