Hong Kong protesters remain defiant despite order to retreat

Hong Kong, Dec 02 (ANI): Demonstrators woke early on Tuesday determined to continue their protests in Hong Kong, a day after thousands of pro-democracy activists forced the temporary closure of government headquarters after clashing with police, defying orders to retreat. Hong Kong leader Leung Chun-Ying said police had been tolerant but would now take "resolute action", suggesting that patience may have finally run out. On Monday the Hong Kong high court granted an injunction which would allow bailiffs to clear the Admiralty protest site. The bailiffs, if they request it, can be supported by police during protest site clearance. It's not known when or if the injunction will be carried out. Speaking on a stage on Monday night in the heart of the Admiralty protest site next to government headquarters, student leader Joshua Wong said he and two others, including a secondary school student, would start a hunger strike to pressure Beijing to grant Hong Kong full democracy. One pro-democracy activist, Lau San Ching felt a hunger strike was not an effective step to take.

TMC requests to issue 'visa' for PM to attend Parliament sessions

New Delhi, Dec 02 (ANI): The TMC along with other parties has made a satirical attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi by collectively asking the Rajya Sabha Speaker to issue a visa for the PM so that he an attend the ongoing parliamentary sessions. TMC leader Derek O'Brien on Tuesday said that there are various national issues of concern which need to be addressed, so the PM should be given a visa to sit in Parliament rather than going around the world.

Rohtak Incident: Boys' families sit on protest, Congress slams

New Delhi, Dec 02 (ANI): After the incident of Rohtak girls acting against molestation by some youth, the boys' family members have sit in a protest supporting their sons. Congress leader Renuka Chaudhary slammed it strongly, saying that the family members of those boys should teach them a lesson instead of supporting their wrong actions. Two girls defended and acted, when being molested by three youth on a roadways bus in Rohtak.

New Delhi, Dec 02 (ANI): Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday slammed the TMC for politicizing the issue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's absence from the Parliament. Naidu said that TMC should not politicize the issue saying PM is absent from sessions because he is doing developmental work and being praised all around the world. He also said that PM is working on national issues and will show his presence when required.

Veteran Bollywood Actor Deven Verma passes away

New Delhi, Dec 02 (ANI): Veteran Hindi film and television actor Deven Verma passed away at Sahyadri Hospital in Pune on Tuesday. According to reports, the 78-year-old actor suffered a cardiac arrest and succumbed to kidney failure. Verma was the popular face in Hindi cinema, known for tickling the funny bone of movie lovers during the golden period. He has won Filmfare Best Comedian Award for Chori Mera Kaam, Chor Ke Ghar Chor and Angoor, the last being directed by Gulzar and still considered one of Bollywood's best comedies. He was last seen on big screen in 2003 in Calcutta Mail.

Congress stages protest outside Parliament against 'NDA government's U-turn policies'

New Delhi, Dec 02 (ANI): Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi along with other party leaders staged protest outside Parliament on Tuesday over NDA government's 'U-turn' policies. Gandhi said that the party will keep protesting against the present government's policies. He alleged that the government had taken U-turns on a total of 25 issues in their 6 months of governance. Carrying the booklet that the party released on Monday over the issue, party leaders like Jyotiraditya Scindia and Veerappa Moily accompanied Gandhi in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue outside the Parliament. Meanwhile, keeping pace with their protests outside the Parliament, Trinamool Congress party also sat in demonstration against the central government.

BJP releases book on PM Modi's foreign visits

New Delhi, Dec 02 (ANI): BJP on Monday released a booklet on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foreign visits since he took over the post on May 2014. The booklet comprises of Modi's visits to Japan, United States, Australia, Nepal, among others and his accomplishments in each of the visit. Present at the occasion were PM, Party President Amit Shah, LK Advani, Union Ministers Sushma Swaraj and Venkaiah Naidu along with other party leaders. The party parliamentary meet also decided that Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj will make a statement in Parliament on Modi's foreign visits.

Interest rates to remain unchanged, says RBI

Mumbai, Dec 2 (ANI): The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Tuesday decided to keep interest rates unchanged and to stay focused on containing inflation. The RBI kept the repo rate at 8 per cent at its policy review, and there was no reduction. The reason for the interest rates being unchanged was because of the less than positive economic growth that was expected during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first six months in power. RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan has reportedly kept the rates same, as a slowdown in economic growth was not as bad as earlier feared.

Sadhvi Niranjan faces flak for using derogatory language during campaigning

New Delhi, Dec 2 (ANI): Union Minister of State Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti on Tuesday came under strong criticism for using an abusive language while addressing voters in a campaign. Earlier on Monday, the union minister had used abusive words to urge voters to choose between candidates, while addressing voters in west Delhi's Shyam Nagar. Her choice of words garnered strong criticism from various political parties.

Niranjan Jyoti apologizes for her controversial remarks in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, Dec 02 (ANI): Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti who recently came under strong criticism for using an abusive language while addressing voters in a campaign, on Tuesday apologized in Lok Sabha for her controversial statement. Meanwhile, reacting over the issue union minister and BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu informed the Lok Sabha, that the party called the minister and raised the matter. She has expressed regret for her comments. Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha today saw protests over remarks made by Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti. The Opposition demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi take action against her.
