Sadhvi row: Govt says Opposition short of issues, Congress continues to demand resignation

New Delhi, Dec 04 (ANI): After Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a statement in the Rajya Sabha about Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti_s use of obnoxious language during an election rally. Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that after continuous demand by the opposition for PM_s remark over the issue, PM Modi made a statement and said such language is condemnable. He said that even when the PM made his statement, the Opposition especially Congress is still raising the issue out of desperation. Meanwhile, Congress leader Ashwani Kumar said that the Opposition had made 2 demands out of which one was fulfilled but demand for Sadhvi_s resignation still holds.

Arun Jaitley calls for regional cooperation to fight customs violations

New Delhi, Dec 04 (ANI): Inaugurating the 2nd Regional Customs Enforcement Meeting in New Delhi, Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, on Thursday (December 04) called for greater international and regional cooperation to deal with customs violations. The heads of customs enforcement agencies of Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar and Sri Lanka will attend the two- day DRI Day celebrations followed by a meeting where a new proposal for intelligence sharing is likely to be adopted. Jaitley added that the DRI had to adapt with the changing times and use technology to stop malpractices.

Niranjan Jyoti has apologized, let the parliament function: PM Modi

New Delhi, Dec 4 (ANI): The stalemate in Rajya Sabha over the hate speech by Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti forced Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make a statement in parliament. Modi urged the House to let proceedings continue as Jyoti had already apologized. However, the Opposition appeared to be in no mood to relent on its demand for her ouster.

Five children killed, more than 20 injured as school van collapses with train in UP

Mau, Dec 04 (ANI): Five children were killed and more than 20 are reported to be injured after a school van collapsed with a passenger train in Mau district of Uttar Pradesh. The accident took place at an unmanned railway crossing on Thursday morning. The injured children were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital and are being treated. Meanwhile, Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu expressed grief over the incident and announced compensation to the victims_ family.

Railways cancel 16 trains due to fog in Uttar Pradesh

Gorakhpur, Dec 04 (ANI): The railway authorities cancelled at least 16 trains as dense fog descends upon Uttar Pradesh. Heavy fog and haze covered Gorakhpur city of Uttar Pradesh, leading to delay and cancellation of trains passing through the area. Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) of northeastern Railways, Alok Kumar Singh, said on Thursday (December 04) that drivers are given precautionary orders not to exceed the speed of trains to avoid any mishap amid low visibility. Besides, certain trains have been rescheduled and their destinations and routes changed to avoid congestion, Singh said. Passengers are facing undue inconvenience.

Rashtrapati Bhavan plays key role in India_s food diplomacy

New Delhi, Nov 4 (ANI): The majestic and architectural masterpiece - Rashtrapati Bhavan being the residence of the President of India hosts many dignitaries from across the world. Be it the U.S. President Barack Obama, Chinese President Xi Jinping or Japanese Emperor Akihito, the visitors include the high and the mighty. And, the men who serve authentic Indian cuisine to the President_s guests are chefs, many of whom have been working here for generations. Though a majority of them have not graduated from culinary institutes, they have learnt to prepare food from their ancestors and old colleagues. 58-year-old Minhaj Ali is a third generation chef, whose grandfather and father have also served in the Presidential kitchen. The man who plans and executes the menus for state banquets, high teas and luncheons at the President_s House is executive chef Machindra Kasture. He joined Rashtrapati Bhavan as executive chef in 2007 on deputation from the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). Kasture heads a team of 26 chefs, including bakers and traditional sweet makers. While planning the menu for visiting dignitaries, they not only keep in mind their likes and dislikes, but also if any of the guests are allergic to certain foods.

New Delhi, Dec 4 (ANI): Alshaya Nasser Travels, one of the two Iraqi government-authorized agencies that facilitate visa processing, has asked tour operators not to accept passports from Indian applicants who are single, under 30 and unaccompanied by family members. The advisory comes after four Kalyan youths, all single and under 30, used the pilgrimage route to travel to Iraq in May and joined the jihadist outfit ISIS there. Politicos reacted on the issue.

Labourers rescued from under debris after bridge collapses in MP

Hoshangabad, Dec 04 (ANI): A bridge under construction collapsed in Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh leaving labourers trapped under debris while they are rescued. As per reports, around 40 labourers were feared to be trapped under the debris of the bridge that was being built over the river Narmada. The injured had been rushed to a hospital nearby as rescue work continued at the site. Reportedly, the bridge was being built at a cost of 30 crore rupees.
