JD (U) disqualifies four MLAs for anti party activities, leaders allege unlawful proceedings

Patna, Dec 27 (ANI): Four JD (U) MLAs have been disqualified for indulging in ‘anti-party activities’ on Saturday. The disqualified Bihar MLAs are Ajit Kumar who was elected from Kanti, Suresh Chanchal from Sakra, Poonam Devi from Deegha and Raju Kumar Singh from Sohebganj. The order was passed by Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary while citing anti-defection law. The MLAs, however, alleged that the proceedings were unlawful and that they will go to higher courts and appeal.

Jharkhand CM designate Raghubar Das meets BJP president Amit Shah

New Delhi, Dec 27 (ANI): Jharkhand CM designate Raghubar Das on Saturday met BJP president Amit Shah. Das said that he had come to thank Shah and assure good governance in Jharkhand. Das has been scheduled to take over as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand on Sunday. The oath-taking ceremony will take place at the Morhabadi ground in Ranchi at 11 a.m. which is likely to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, among other dignitaries. Das will be the first non-tribal to take over the top post in the state.

Bajrang Dal introduces 'bahu lao-beti bachao' after VHP's 'ghar wapsi', Politicos condemn

New Delhi/ Agra, Dec 27 (ANI): Politicos condemned Bajrang Dal on Saturday as the group introduced 'bahu lao-beti bachao' campaign. Notwithstanding the controversy generated over the 'love jihad' and 'ghar wapsi', Bajrang Dal has announced 'bahu lao-beti bachao' campaign in Uttar Pradesh. Bajrang Dal state convenor Ajju Chauhan said that the "bahu lao-beti bachao" campaign will be a reply to "love jihad" and will seek to bring girls from Muslim or Christian communities as daughters-in-laws for Hindu families. Congress leader Rashid Alvi and SP's Naresh Agrawal condemned the central government and said that they have fallen short of issues and therefore are now trying to deviate from the topics. JD (U) leader KC Tyagi also slammed Modi government. Former SP leader Kamal Faruqui, however, said that these issues are making the promises of the prime minister faded thing.

Tribal groups call for Bandh in West Bengal

Birpara, Dec 27 (ANI): Several tribal groups on Saturday have called for shutdown in Birpara area of Alipurduar district of West Bengal following the attacks by the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) which killed over 80 people. NDFB militants killed over 80 people in the Sonitpur, Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of Assam ths week. Various groups such as All Assam Tea Tribes Student Association, Adivasi Chhatra Sangathan, Akhil Assam Bhojpuri Parishad, All Assam Minority Students' Union (AAMSU) and seven other groups had observed Bandh in several areas of Assam even on Friday.

Grenade blast in Imphal injures at least four

Imphal, Dec 27 (ANI): At least four people were injured in a grenade blast on Friday in Imphal, Manipur. The blast took place at around 5.30 pm when an unidentified person hurled a grenade in front of an office 'Angels Digital Media Service'. The injured, who were inside the shop at the time of blast, sustained minor injuries. Security personnel rushed at the site and investigation is underway. No group has claimed responsibility for the blast yet. On December 21, three people were killed and four sustained injuries in a bomb explosion in Imphal. Manipur is one of the seven states that make up India's remote northeast.

New Delhi records first swine flu death

Ghaziabad /New Delhi, Dec 27 (ANI): Indian capital New Delhi recorded its first swine flu death. The deceased identified as Sheel Goel, resident of East Model Town in Ghaziabad was admitted to the ICU of Ganga Ram Hospital in a serious condition on December 21. She was tested positive for swine flu. She was earlier being treated in a local hospital in Ghaziabad. The authorities claimed that the victim had come from South Africa few days before her death. However, the family denied any abroad visit and said the victim didn’t even have a passport.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella discusses about 'Digital India' concept with PM Modi

New Delhi, Dec 27 (ANI): Microsoft Corp CEO, Satya Nadella who is on a vacation in India, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and discussed about 'Digital India' concept. Nadella also met India's Communications and Information Technology (IT) Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, and discussed about 'Digital India'. Nadella said that through new technology and concepts every Indian could be empowered. Nadella, a 46-year old born in India who led the creation of Microsoft's Internet-based, or "cloud" computing services, is only Microsoft's third CEO in 39 years, taking over from Steve Ballmer, who inherited the job from Gates in 2000.

Six die as cold wave tightens grip in India

Saharsa, Dec 27 (ANI): At least six people have died in Bihar due to extreme cold wave conditions, officials have confirmed. All the deaths were reported from Saharsa district in the state. Intense cold wave conditions continued unabated across India with mercury touching new lows. Saharsa district magistrate, Shashi Bhushan, said a probe has been ordered into the deaths. The cold has inconvenienced locals on the streets as they struggle to find means to keep themselves warm, often burning scraps of rubbish to create a bonfire. Soma, the mother of the deceased, said they rushed him to a local hospital after he felt uneasy, but could not survive. The sudden dip in temperatures is said to have been caused by snowfall in the Himalayas and has adversely impacted the upper half of the country. Minimum temperatures have even dropped to sub-zero levels in higher altitudes in northern state of Jammu and Kashmir.
