Ghaziabad, Jan 05 (ANI): Commuters bound for New Delhi from neighbouring Ghaziabad were struck in the middle on Monday (January 5) after a part of a highway caved in due to incessant rains in the past week. National Highway 24 connects New Delhi to Uttar Pradesh. Long queues of traffic stretched several kilometres, causing problems for office-goers. Commuters were seen walking on the highway after discarding public transport buses. Eyewitnesses said the rains had caused waterlogging at the Hindon Bridge on the highway which caved in early morning. Police cordoned off the area and diverted traffic to different routes. New Delhi, Jan 05 (ANI): People staged a protest on Monday against journalist Praveen Swami for opining that the men on the Pakistani boat, which sank after being intercepted near the India- Pakistan maritime boundary, might not be terrorists. The protesters burnt papers of the Indian Express, the national daily for which Swami currently writes. Swami, in an article published on January 3, had written that he doubted India's claims of the boat being a 'terror boat' from Pakistan. One BSF jawan killed in fresh ceasefire violations by Pak rangers

Samba, Jan 05 (ANI): One BSF jawan was martyred in fresh ceasefire violations by Pakistani Rangers at Hiranagar in Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. Pakistani Rangers had violated ceasefire again by targeting border posts in Kathua and Samba sectors, drawing retaliation from BSF. Scared villagers were seen running for refuge during the ceasefire violations in the area. Villagers continued to migrate to safer areas in view of the latest round of ceasefire violations by Pakistan. Over 3,500 villagers have migrated from border villages in Samba and Kathua districts.
