Poetry magazine gathers poets to enthrall discerning Delhi audience

New Delhi, Jan 17 (ANI): The Poetry Society (India) and the India International Centre organized a poetry session on Friday on the theme of "Images of Life in Changing Times: Poetry from 'The Seventh Quarry" here. The 'Seventh Quarry' is a poetry magazine published in Swansea and Wales. The session was attended by seventeen renowned and distinguished poets from all across India and the idea was to underline the importance of poetry in contemporary times. Multi-lingual forms of poetry was on show as poets recited their poems in English, Urdu and Odiya in a wonderful manner. The Seventh Quarry magazine has given honour to Indian poets by bringing a special issue. Kathmandu-based Indian diplomat-poet Abhay K. also read some of his poems at the event.

Japan Foreign Minister says will invest in India's northeast

New Delhi, Jan 17 (ANI): Japan Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said on Saturday that Japan would invest in building roads and infrastructure in India's northeast. Building infrastructure such as power plants, industries and telecommunication hubs in the northeast would be a major contributor to connect the key region with Southeast Asian countries. Japan has promised to give India $ 35 billion for developmental projects. Kishida arrived in New Delhi on Friday to co-chair the eighth India-Japan Strategic Dialogue with his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj. The two foreign ministers will review all aspects of the bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Traffic authorities in Kashmir hold rally to spread awareness on road safety

Srinagar, Jan 17 (ANI): Traffic police in Jammu and Kashmir organised a rally to mark Road Safety Week in order to spread awareness on traffic rules and regulations among the residents. The week-long awareness rally by traffic authorities concluded on Saturday with various programmes including walkathon, road shows and seminars. Many hoardings and banners were also put up that read 'Safety is just not a slogan, it is a way of life' which was also the theme of this year's Road Safety Week. Residents of Kashmir valley expressed satisfaction at the initiative taken by the authorities that concerned people's safety. But they also expressed concern at the low maintenance of roads.

New Delhi, Jan 17 (ANI): Congress leader Kiran Walia on Saturday while addressing a press conference said that she is not worried about winning or losing the upcoming assembly elections but she is worried about the kind of politics Kejriwal is trying to bring in Delhi. Walia added that Kejriwal made false promises to the people of Delhi. This came after Congress decided to field Kiran Walia against Arvind Kejriwal in the prestigious New Delhi constituency where the AAP leader had handed a crushing defeat to Sheila Dikshit in the assembly polls in 2013.
