Ayodhya letter controversy: BJP hits at Congress & SP, calls them secular syndicate

New Delhi, Oct 14 (ANI): Talking about the transfer of UP Home Secretary Sarvesh Chandra Mishra and suspension of another official, Prem Kumar Pandey over a letter on the “reconstruction” of the Ram temple at Ayodhya, BJP Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that Congress and Samajwadi Party is together in the same and termed the parties as “secular syndicate”. He further said that this was a trick by the parties before the upcoming 2014 General Elections so that people get diverted from the real issue.

Phailin leaves trail of destruction, death toll reaches to 14

New Delhi/ Nagpur/ Gopalpur, Oct 14 (ANI): The most powerful storm to hit India in more than a decade, Cyclone Phailin waned considerably on Sunday before leaving 14 people dead and a trail of widespread destruction behind. Cabinet Secretary Ajit Kumar Seth confirmed the death toll as the Phailin subsided from the affected state. Even as the cyclone devastated a large section of both the affected states, Home Affairs Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said that it is to the relief that the destruction caused is much lesser than the 2004 destruction caused by tsunami. Over ten million people residing along the coastal region of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh faced mass displacement as a result of the havoc created by Phailin, the super cyclone.

Odisha Chief Minister announces compensation for Phailin victims

Bhubaneshwar, Oct 14 (ANI): Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik of Odisha announced compensation to cyclone victims in cash and kind. A mass evacuation saved thousands of people from India's fiercest cyclone in 14 years, but aid workers warned a million would need help after their homes and livelihoods were destroyed. Cyclone Phailin headed inland on Sunday after making landfall from the Bay of Bengal, bringing winds of more than 200 kph (125 mph) that ripped apart homes and tore down trees. He also confirmed that more than 2,00,000 mud houses and standing crops were damaged and victims would be paid the compensation amount after due assessment. Further, the Chief Minister confirmed that roads would be repaired within the next 24 hours, while power and electricity would be restored in 36 hours in most places.

MP temple stampede: Death toll rises to 109, over 100 injured

Datia, Oct 14 (ANI): At least 109 people were killed and more than 100 injured in a stampede triggered by rumours of a river bridge collapse near a remote Hindu temple in Datia region of Madhya Pradesh. The State government ordered a judicial inquiry into the mishap which was a shocking re-run of the tragedy at the same site in 2006 when 50 pilgrims were washed away. Senior Medical Officer at a government hospital in Gwalior, Dr GS Patel informed that the hospital is looking after relief and rescue operation. Pilgrims panicked when rumours spread that the railings broke on a bridge that led to the temple thereby triggering the stampede. Some devotees were crushed to death under the feet of fellow worshippers, others drowned after falling or jumping into the river Sindh. Local media said the police used batons to control the crowd, prompting many people to panic.

BJP hits back at Digvijay Singh for politicizing Ratangarh temple stampede

New Delhi/ Bhopal, Oct 14 (ANI): The BJP on Monday slammed Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh for his tweet on Ratangarh temple stampede in which he blamed the state government for the tragedy. Talking to mediapersons in New Delhi, BJP leader Kirti Azad said that said it is time to offer condolences to the people rather than indulging in a blame game. Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Umashankar Gupta said that the Congress leader should not be taken seriously.

Ram temple letter: SP played politics which back lashed at them, says BJP

Lucknow, Oct 14 (ANI): Talking about the suspensions that came as aftermath of Ram temple letter by the party, BJP leader Kalraj Mishra said that the Samajwadi Party tried to do politics over the issue in order to hide the Muzaffarnagar violence stain on them, but it adversely fell over them. Earlier, UP government transferred Home Secretary Sarvesh Chandra Mishra and suspended another official, Prem Kumar Pandey over the controversies on a letter asking for "reconstruction" of the Ram temple at Ayodhya. Mishra also said that the party is trying to hide their in competencies but this will affect their vote bank adversely.
