Jairam Ramesh lauds new Land Acquisition Act

Chennai, Oct 16 (ANI): Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday lauded the new land acquisition act as it guarantees fair compensation to the farmers, apart from making rehabilitation easy for those who were rendered landless. The new Land Acquisition Bill, which would come into effect from January 1, 2013. Ramesh while addressing a news conference in Chennai said that the priority of the new act was fair compensation and transparency. Ramesh also said that it would benefit the farmers. Commenting on the Food Security Act, Ramesh said that it was oriented primarily for those states which suffer from acute poverty and malnutrition.

Family opposes releasing book on Bhagat Singh by Narendra Modi

Ludhiana, Oct 16 (ANI): After Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was invited to release martyr Bhagat Singh's jail notebook, by a kin, family of the martyr opposed the move. Singh's nephew Jagmohan Singh said on Wednesday that Singh had a nationalist ideology, while Modi supports Hindu nationalism and both the ideologies are contradictory. He further said that Bhagat Singh was a martyr and someone like Modi should not be allowed to connect himself with Singh's name in anyway. He went on to lash the development model of Modi too and said that Modi is running after American technology and is ignoring poor people of his state.

Prem Chopra inaugurates art exhibition 'KrishnAnsh' in Mumbai

Mumbai, Oct 16 (ANI): Veteran Bollywood actor Prem Chopra inaugurated an art exhibition labeled 'KrishnAnsh' held by an Indian artist Rakhi Baid in the showbiz capital Mumbai on Wednesday. Bubbly actress Gracy Singh also graced the occasion. Chopra said that Baid had indeed put in so much of effort and termed her artwork extremely beautiful. Baid's paintings portrayed Lord Krishna and Mira in various moods and texture. Gracy Singh who looked vivacious in an orange dress said that she could easily connect herself with these paintings.

Fresh ceasefire in Kashmir: Opposition wants strong retaliation
