Tamchon Football Tournament attracts many spectators in New Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 12 (ANI): The 7th annual Tamchon Football tournament, a 15-day carnival of football and cultural extravaganza, concluded on 30th November at the Dr. Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi. A total of 16 teams comprising of players from different northeastern states participated in the tournament to promote peace, friendship and unity among the youth of the country. The final match between Kangla Sanaroi Lup of Meitei and HMar FC attracted a large crowd.

BJP fully committed, pass Lokpal Bill by Monday: Jaitley to Govt

New Delhi, Dec 12 (ANI): Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley on Thursday accused the UPA government for not being sincere in getting the Lokpal bill passed in parliament. Underlining that his party is fully committed to the passage of the bill, Jaitley said the BJP is ready to pass it without debate if it is presented as it was after the select committee's changes.

Maldives Defence Minister in India to boost bilateral ties

New Delhi, Dec 12 (ANI): Minister of Defence and National Security of the Republic of Maldives, Mohamed Nazim, arrived in India with an aim to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation between the two nations. Defence Minister of Maldives arrived in India on December 11 and is scheduled to be here till December 15. On Thursday, Nazim paid a visit to India Gate and offered tribute to the deceased soldiers at the Amar Jawan Jyoti. Nazim was also accorded the Guard of Honour and met Defence Minister of India, AK Antony. When asked about the bilateral defence cooperation between India and Maldives, Antony seemed satisfied. Commenting on the same, the Maldivian counterpart said he has come to India with the purpose of strengthening bilateral ties.

Naxals spread terror in Kusma Vrindabani village

Jharkhand, Dec 12 (ANI): The people of Kusma Vrindavani village in Jharkhand live in fear. On December 7, dozens of Naxals entered the village and threatened some prominent people, including the village head, Guddam Baski. They also misbehaved with the women and ordered them to remain inside their houses. The villagers are scared of being attacked by the Maoists and have taken shelter in the local police station. They have also requested for a police picket for the protection. The naxals call themselves the protectors of the rights of the poor, but they have become a threat for villagers in Jharkhand and in other states.

Muzaffarnagar riots: SC shows concern over children's death in relief camps

New Delhi, Dec 12 (ANI): Supreme Court expressed serious concern over media reports pointing to death of about 50-60 children in relief camps set up for Muzaffarnagar riots victims and asked the UP government to answer on the cause of the riots by 21st January. The lawyer informed that the state government has not taken any action even after the court's direction given earlier.

Merely calling regular coffee "eco-friendly" can make it taste better

New Delhi, Dec 12 (ANI): A new study has suggested that people find "eco-friendly" labeled cup of coffee better than a regular cup when both cups were brewed from the same batch of coffee beans. It was found that coffee drinkers are convinced "eco friendly" coffee tastes better and are willing to pay a premium for labeled products. The research from the University of Gavle and the University of Chicago suggested that an increasingly large number of products are marked with morally loaded labels such as 'fair-trade' and 'organically produced' - labels associated with social or environmental responsibility that speak to our conscience.

Happy that leaders concerned about SC's wrong decision on gay rights: Anand Grover

New Delhi, Dec 12 (ANI): After union leaders like Kapil Sibal and P Chidambaram expressed concern over re-criminalizing gay sex and upholding the constitutional validity of Section 377 of IPC by the Supreme Court, Senior Advocate Anand Grover expressed happiness about the same. He said that SC's duty is to look after the rights of people, but in this case, the SC has curbed people's rights. Grover said that the central government should pressurize to review the apex court's verdict.

Protesters call for execution of Abdul Quader Mollah in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Dec 12 (ANI): Protesters gathered in Dhaka demanding execution of Islamist opposition leader Abdul Quader Mollah. Lawyers met at the Supreme Court's appeals division and are likely to resume arguments on Thursday. The stay on execution remains until the appeal against the death penalty is resolved. Mollah, found guilty of war crimes committed during the 1971 war of independence from Pakistan, was due to be hanged at Dhaka Central Jail just after midnight on Wednesday, but his lawyers earned a last-minute reprieve. Mollah is assistant secretary general of the Jamaat-e-Islami party, which is barred from contesting elections but plays a key role in the opposition movement led by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Protesters gathered in the capital and clamoured for Mollah's speedy execution.
