Folk festival in Goa fills streets with dance, music and colours

Panjim, March 23 (ANI): Goa is celebrating its annual colourful street festival of folk songs and dance, ‘Shigmo Festival’ – a social carnival with a religious core. The 15-day-long festival, customarily spring’s biggest festival, commemorates the homecoming of warriors of the region who fought the invaders. It also bids adieu to the season of winters. The festival fills the state with colours, music and dance with huge processions being carried out. Men clad in elaborate costumes and holding heavy props depict the life of a resident of Goa through folk performances. Scenes and episodes from mythological Hindu stories are performed during the larger-than-life event.

BJP MP Harin Pathak expresses pain over denial of ticket

Ahmedabad, March 23 (ANI): Senior BJP leader Harin Pathak on Sunday expressed pain as he was denied party ticket for the upcoming general elections. Addressing a news conference in Ahmedabad, Pathak said that people who attacked BJP are now being inducted in the party. Harin Pathak, who has won elections for seven consecutive times as a member of BJP, was denied the ticket for Ahmedabad (East) parliamentary constituency in Gujarat in decision taken by the top party leadership on Saturday. Reportedly, Pathak has been replaced by Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal. Pathak is considered a loyalist of senior BJP leader, Lal Krishna Advani. The BJP leader also said such decisions by leadership have lowered the morale of party workers in Gujarat.

Four suspected IM terrorists arrested in Rajasthan

Jodhpur/ New Delhi/ Mumbai, March 23 (ANI): Four suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorists have been arrested in Rajasthan by the Special Cell of Delhi Police. Waqas, a Pakistani national, is one of the most wanted in connection with several blasts in the country. Meanwhile, Home Affairs Minister Sushilkumar Shinde termed the arrest of Waqas as a great success and a crucial link to terrorist outfits and activities. He also assured of all necessary security measures against any threat to the BJP leaders.

Maoist fear looms in Jharkhand ahead of LS Polls

Khunti, March 23 (ANI): Politicians in Maoist-infested Khunti district of Jharkhand expressed grave concerns as they face serious security threats from Maoists ahead of the general elections – a democratic exercise that the rebels despise. As per a report by the internal affairs ministry, Khunti has been ranked the topmost Maoist affected district in the country. Politicians said that as the mammoth exercise is just round the corner the people of the district are becoming increasingly scared of any Maoist activity. Meanwhile, the police said they are gearing up to put a fight against the insurgents and are getting support from higher authorities. Around 34 civilians and security officials were killed in Maoist attacks in Khunti last year.

I am not an 'outsider': Arun Jaitley

Amritsar, Mar 23 (ANI): BJP candidate from Amritsar Arun Jaitley denied accusations put by the state Congress candidate Captain Amarinder Singh calling Jaitley an 'outsider' in the city. Jaitley justified his relation with the place saying that he has ancestral roots in Amritsar, so he can not be termed as an 'outsider' or 'pseudo' Punjabi. Jaitley questioned the Congress leader and former Punjab CM through his blog as to which state in India does Congress President Sonia Gandhi belong.

BJP over revolt in the party by Jaswant Singh

New Delhi, Mar 23 (ANI): Reacting over the recent revolt in the BJP by senior leader Jaswant Singh, party leaders Mukhtar Abbas Naqv i and Sudhanshu Trivedi said that their senior leader has been and will always be given due respect. Naqvi justified his party's decision saying that some decisions may not be suitable from the point of view of an individual but overall they are for the betterment of the party. Talking over the statements given by Jaswant Singh earlier in the day, Naqvi said that Singh might be hurt but currently national interests should be catered for.

Jodhpur, March 23 (ANI): Miffed senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jaswant Singh on Sunday said that he is not a furnishing table or chair that the party will keep on changing his place according to their suitability. Singh, who currently represents Darjeeling in the Lok Sabha, also announced that he will file his nomination papers for Lok Sabha polls from Barmer on Monday. The Central Election Committee of the BJP decided on Friday not to give in to veteran leader Jaswant Singh's demand/request to grant him a ticket to contest the general elections from Rajasthan's Barmer District.
