Heavy rains halt life in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, July 30 (ANI): Heavy rains in Ahmedabad brought life to a standstill on Wednesday but cheered people up. The incessant rains that started a night ago clogged city roads, creating huge potholes in them. The rainwater also flooded roads outside Ahmedabad's airport and caused inconvenience to people. People blamed carelessness of local Municipal Corporation for the water-filled roads, uprooting of trees and power shortages. However, rainfall has come as a relief to people trying to cope up with the unbearable summers in India. According to the weather department, monsoon has reached over Gujarat and has lashed most parts of the state.

Subrata Roy seeks Wi-Fi, conference room at Tihar Jail

New Delhi, July 30 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked Sahara’s lawyers and Tihar jail authorities to agree on a plan for conducting meeting of Subrata Roy and potential buyers of his hotels through video conferencing. The apex court will take up the matter again for hearing on August 1.

Bihar by polls: RJD, JD (U), Congress announce pact to counter BJP

Patna, July 30 (ANI): The three major political parties in Bihar, JD (U), RJD and Congress on Wednesday sealed an alliance to contest the upcoming Assembly by-elections in the state. Addressing mediapersons in Patna, senior JD (U) leader Vashistha Narayan Singh said JD (U), RJD, Congress have decided to contest the upcoming by-polls in the state together. It has also been decided that the three parties will jointly campaign.

Kanpur murder case: Businessman confesses to killing wife

Kanpur, July 30 (ANI): In a new twist in the Kanpur murder case, the husband has confessed to have plotted the murder of his wife with the help of his driver. Piyush Shyam Dashani was arrested on Tuesday after his wife Jyoti Dashani was found murdered on Monday. She was abducted after some bikers allegedly intercepted the car the couple was traveling in on Sunday night. They took her away in the car. She was later found stabbed to death in the same vehicle. Police said CCTV camera footage led them to suspect the hand of Piyush in the murder. He was seen wearing two different outfits on the night of the murder.

Supertech Case: SC orders builders to refund buyers_ money

New Delhi, July 30 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday gave a ruling that Supertech Builders should fulfill their commitment to the buyers and refund their invested money. The Court also asked Supertech to allot another flat to allottees who did not want to get a refund. The Allahabad High Court in April ordered the demolition of two 40-storey towers of real estate firm Supertech for illegal construction. The residential towers were part of the Emerald Court Project in Noida.

Bugging row stalls Parliament

New Delhi, July 30 (ANI): Reports that bugging devices were found in the homes of three union ministers -Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj and Rajnath Singh -led to political fireworks in Parliament as both houses adjourned within minutes after a four-day break. Amid opposition demands for a probe, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, said in Rajya Sabha, that there is no truth in the reports on bugging. He further added that Nitin Gadkari himself has denied it and calls the news baseless. The statement was followed by even louder protests from the opposition benches. The Congress, Samajwadi Party and Janata Dal United also demanded the suspension of question hour in the Lok Sabha to discuss the bugging case.

Sports Minister extends heartiest congratulations to CWG medal winners

New Delhi, July 30 (ANI): Union Minister for Sports Sarbananda Sonowal congratulated Indian players for bringing medals to the nation in the 2014 Commonwealth games in Glasgow. India has so far won 10 gold medals, 15 silver medals and 11 Bronze medals thus bringing in totality 36 medals.
