Army says militants trying to disrupt polls in Kashmir

Jammu, Nov 27 (ANI): Indian army's top official said intelligence inputs suggested that militants along the Line of Control (LoC) and hinterland were trying to disrupt the ongoing election process in Kashmir. General Officer Commanding 16 Corps Lieutenant General KH Singh said that the activities are being carried on with the sole intention of disturbing the ongoing polls in the state. Singh also said that the army is fully equipped and prepared to deal with any such activities along the international border. The assembly segments going to polls include Kishtwar, Inderwal, Doda, Bhaderwah, Ramban and Banihal in Jammu division; Gurez, Bandipora, Sonawari, Kangan and Ganderbal in Kashmir region and Nobra, Leh, Kargil and Zanskar in Ladakh region.

Celebrations kick start as BSF to enter its 50th year in December

New Delhi, Nov 27 (ANI): The Golden Jubilee celebrations of world's largest border guarding force, India's Border Security Force (BSF), kicked off in New Delhi as the paramilitary will enter its 50th year on December 01. BSF was established on December 01, 1965, it is a paramilitary force charged with guarding India's land border during peace time and preventing cross-border crime as it is one of many law enforcement agencies of India. BSF Director General, DK Pathak said that in the last 49 years the security force has grown to a sizeable organisation. The BSF, he further said, will organise seminars, men storming sessions and workshops to make its personnel better prepared and will strengthen its efforts to defend the border population, for it is its support which makes the organisation's work easier.

Badaun Case: CBI reportedly says girls committed suicide

New Delhi/ Badaun, Nov 27 (ANI): After a five-month probe in the infamous Badaun case, the CBI has reportedly claimed that the two teenage sisters had allegedly committed suicide, putting to rest all speculation that the duo was gang-raped and murdered. The Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics, which conducted the forensic analysis, had already ruled out sexual assault on the victims. All five suspects already passed lie-detection and psychological tests done by the forensic experts. Meanwhile the Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women Barkha Shukla Singh said that the CBI should revisit reports and culprits must be punished. The incident had come to light on May 28 when the bodies of two cousins - aged 14 and 15 years old - were found hanging from a tree in a village in UP's Badaun district, sparking a nation-wide outrage.

Flood damaged foot-over Bridge in Kashmir remains a hazard for villagers

Rajouri, Nov 27 (ANI): A foot-over Bridge damaged in the floods that devastated the state of Jammu and Kashmir in September this year remains unrepaired, forcing villagers to cross the river flowing below at immense peril to their lives. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands of villages were devastated by the worst flooding in decades in the Kashmir valley. People risk their lives crossing the bridge by holding on to the steel ropes of the destroyed bridge. The villagers said that more than three months on, the bridge has not been repaired. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced 5.7 billion rupees in assistance for housing and 1.8 billion rupees to fix six major hospitals in the state that are in poor condition and need immediate federal support. Meanwhile, Sub-District Magistrate, Sukh Pal Singh, said that the bridge has sustained heavy damages.
