United States President Donald Trump had reportedly offered to play matchmaker for Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year. Trump had made the statement after learning that the PM is estranged from his wife.

Trump has been invited by PM Modi to be the chief guest for the Republic Day parade. But there are no reports which suggest that Trump has accepted the invitation.

The statement was made last year when Trump came to know that PM Modi would be travelling to the White House on his own. At this, he said, "Ah, I think I can set him up with somebody".

Trump has also made other jokes at Modi's expense. He has been known to imitate Modi's behaviour and accent

Other reports have shown that he did not know anything about the Indian subcontinent before PM Modi's visit. While he was reading up, he had called Nepal as "nipple" and Bhutan as 'button" and hadn't even known the existence of such countries.
