After Will Smith for Genie's role, now reports suggest that Tom Hardy has been approached to play the role of Jafar in the live-action remake of the classic 1992 movie Aladdin. If reports are to be believed then Hardy is the first choice of director Guy Ritchie to play the negative role.

The director has approached the 39-year-old Brit actor for the role and is waiting for his reply. According to The Sun, Ritchie believes that Hardy's acting and box office appeal will surely make parents take their kids to the theatres for Aladdin remake.

"Guy is a huge fan of Tom's work and securing him would be a major coup. There have been conversations and, although nothing is set in stone and things are subject to change, he's certainly one of Guy's favoured choices," a source told the newspaper.

"It just depends on schedules whether he'll be able to sign up."

After the success of Beauty and the Best, Disney has given the green signal for another live-action remake with Aladdin. Earlier, The Jungle Book and Cinderella's remake worked well at the box office for Disney. The recent success is Emma Watson starrer Beauty and the Beast that raked in $ 1.241 billion from the worldwide box office.

Meanwhile, apart from Hardy, two other stars have been linked with the film. There were reports that Smith has been approached to play the role of Genie, which was originally played by Robin William. Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall is in talks to play Princess Jasmine.

The movie is still in pre-production stage and the only confirmed information about the movie is that it will be a musical film. Ritchie in an interview with Nerdist said that it will be difficult to not make Aladdin a musical film.

"It'd be tough not to make [Aladdin] a musical," he said, adding, "it's too early to say anymore because I've really just immersed myself in that project. So I'm still looking for cast members, we still haven't found exactly what direction we're going in."
