"Thoongavanam" has been released in above 370 screens in Tamil Nadu and had an average occupancy of over 70% on the opening day. Even though Ajith's "Vedalam" took all the limelight, Kamal Haasan's film enjoyed a good day at the box office in most centres in the state.

"Thoongavanam" has earned about Rs 4 crore and the exact figure is yet to be revealed. It appears like the rains in Chennai due to the depression in the Bay of Bengal did not have much impact on the audience as they turned up in theatres in full spirits.

In the overseas centres, "Thoongavanam" has been released in close to 300 screens and the response has been good in the US. The estimation reports are yet to be out.

"Thoongavanam" is a crime-thriller written by Kamal Haasan himself. It is the Tamil adaptation of French film "Nuit Blanche". Rajesh M Selva has directed the movie, which has Prakash Raj and Trisha Krishnan in important roles. Kishore, Sampath Raj, Asha Sarath and many others are in the cast.

Meanwhile, "Thoongavanam" has garnered highly positive reviews from the critics and audience. They have praised the brilliant narration, the stunning performance of Kamal Haasan, Trisha Krishnan and Prakash Raj.

The collection of "Thoongavanam" is expected to improve in the coming days due to the positive buzz around the film. The film could end up being one of the highest first weekend grossers in Kollywood this year as it has the advantage of six-day holiday weekend.
