Sachin Pilot aims for party's makeover ahead of parliamentary elections

Militants target and kill five non-local bus passengers in Kokrajhar

Assam, Jan 29 (ANI): On the night of January 17, a bus plying from Siliguri to Shillong on NH31 was stopped by cadres of anti-talk faction of NDFB (Songbjit) in Ramfalbil area of Assam's Kokrajhar district. In Taliban style, the militants lined up Hindi speaking passengers and fired on them indiscriminately. Five people were killed on the spot and 3 were seriously injured.

Asha Mirje gives clarification on her rape remark about women

Nagpur, Jan 29 (ANI): Maharashtra State Women Commission member and NCP member Asha Mirje on Wednesday apologized for her comment that women are also to be blamed for rapes. Talking to mediapersons, she clarified that she was only giving her opinion and advice to women. She said that she was of the view that women are always equal to men and that rapes are condemnable but the responsibility to be careful and alert also lies with women themselves. Mirje had asked why was the 23-year-old medical student, who was gang-raped on a moving bus in Delhi in December, 2012, out with her friend late at night. She also commented on the photojournalist who was gang-raped at the abandoned Shakti Mills complex in Mumbai last year.

Obama lays out go-it-alone approach in State of Union speech

President Barack Obama in his State of the Union address spoke of what unites the country, while laying out his strategy for getting around a divided Congress -- a plan that reflects scaled-back legislative ambitions after a tough year. He also made it clear that he would bypass lawmakers to get things done. He spoke of the growing inequality in the country. He pledged to sign an executive order raising the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour for federal contract workers with new contracts. He called on Congress to follow suit by raising the minimum wage for all workers. The President will now embark on a two-day road trip starting on Wednesday including stops in Pennsylvania and Tennessee where he will pitch his message directly to the American people.
