Alec Baldwin has returned to Saturday Night Live this weekend with his popular impersonation of Donald Trump and he took a dig at President-elect Trump's relation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, his misspelled tweets and the refusal by some musicians to perform at his inauguration.

The cold open began with Baldwin's Trump and SNL cast member Kate McKinnon's Kellyanne Conway at Trump Tower discussing former Texas governor Rick Perry, who is Trump's pick for energy secretary. Baldwin's Trump said, "This guy has so much energy. Un-president-ed," while poking fun at Trump's misspelled tweets.

SNL cast member Cecily Strong played first lady-to-be Melania Trump, while fellow cast member Beck Bennett played Putin.

Shortly after that, Baldwin's Trump seemed to be jolted by a sound coming from the chimney, and he asked "What's that sound? ... Is it a ghost? Am I being scrooged? I hate that."

The mystery got solved soon as Bennett's bare-bodied Putin popped out of the fireplace. Bennett's shirtless Putin told Alec Baldwin's Trump, "We think you are the best candidate, the smartest candidate, the Manchurian candidate."

And, Baldwin's Trump responded saying, "I don't know what that means but it sounds tremendous."

Soon after, surprise guest John Goodman entered the room, playing Trump's pick for Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, who is quite friendly with Putin.

Despite getting slammed repeatedly by Trump, Baldwin's portrayal became a fan favourite and many of the election-related cold open skits have gone viral online.

Saturday Night Live airs on NBC Saturdays at 11:30 pm ET.
