Sarah Hyland has posted an Instagram story announcing the death of her 14-year-old cousin Trevor Canaday. He was struck fatally by a drunk driver this weekend, according to her post.
The Canaday family have set up a GoFundMe page for medical and funeral expenses and the actress shared it on her Instagram where she wrote, "This is my 14-year-old cousin Trevor. Yesterday, he was killed by a drunk driver. My uncle is still in the hospital in need of more surgeries."
According to the GoFundMe page set up by his Trevor's mother Becky and sisters Tessa and Zoee, Eonline reports that the family were based in Omaha, Nebraska. They were reported, "driving to a show choir event and were involved in a serious car accident due to a drunk driver."
"Bryan [Trevor's father and Hyland's uncle], is recovering physically, but sadly Trevor has gained his wings and is singing and playing some crazy football in heaven."
The post went on to say that "Trevor was a funny, smart, innovative, athletic, goofy kid and he was so loved. His memory will live on in many ways. Please help us do this for the family now to help ease their suffering away from money to focus on healing emotionally."
Apart from Sarah Hyland, her Modern Family co-star Ariel Winter re-posted the Instagram post asking her followers to help the grieving family. At the time of writing, the GoFundMe campaign with a target of $25,000 had reached $25,821 and is continuing to trend.
The report notes that Both Hyland and Winter's Instagram posts said that the drunk man who allegedly rammed into Bryan's car already had two previous DUIs. In another photo, Hyland caption read, the man, "hit my Uncle's car so fast my cousin (who was wearing a seatbelt) was ejected from the car."
