Mohanlal's Pulimurugan now in Rs 100 crore club; first Malayalam film to achieve this feat

Superstar Mohanal is basking in the success of his latest Malayalam movie Pulimurugan, which has been garnering tremendous response from worldwide audience. The Vysakh directorial, in which the actor plays the role of a wild hunter, has already become the biggest grossing Malayalam movie till date.

The big-budget action thriller, bankrolled by Tomichan Mulakupaadam, has become the first Mollywood movie to enter the prestigious Rs 100 crore club from worldwide box office within four weeks of its release. Mohanlal revealed the news via his Facebook page on Monday, November 7.

"I am happy to share with you all, that #Pulimurugan becomes the first Malayalam movie to enter 100 crore club. Thanks to Director Vysakh, Producer Tomichan Mulakupadam, Stunt Choreographer Peter Hein, Scriptwriter Udayakrishna ,Cinematographer Shaji and to Music Director Gopi Sunder and the entire crew , for their effort in making Pulimurugan, a big success. This is made possible by each and every one of the audience who watched this movie in the theatre, here I am extending my sincere thanks to them and above all to the Almighty for his blessings [sic]," Mohanlal posted on his social media page.

According to trade analysts, the Mohanlal-starrer has approximately minted over Rs 65 crore from the box office in Kerala within four weeks of its theatrical run. The 31-days collection of the movie from the six multiplexes in Kochi is Rs 3.22 crore - one of the fastest Malayalam movies to achieve this feat. Pulimurugan is said to have earned Rs 8 crore from the screens in rest of India and more than Rs 20 crore from the overseas market in the US, UK, UAE, Poland, Australia, New Zealand and many others.

Pulimurugan, which was released all over the UAE on November 4, has been ranked on the top spot among the list of the biggest grossers this weekend. It is trailing Doctor Strange, Trolls, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and The Accountant. Meanwhile, the Telugu version of the Mohanlal-starrer, titled Manyam Puli, has is scheduled to hit the screens in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on November 11.
