'Phailin' is expected to reach Jharkhand accompanied by heavy rains: IMD

Bhubaneswar/Ranchi, Oct 14 (ANI): The officials in the weather department forecasted on Monday that the Super-Cyclone 'Phailin' is expected to reach Jharkhand accompanied by heavy rains in several regions. Earlier, a mass evacuation saved thousands of people from the cyclone in Odisha. Director of weather department, Bhubaneshwar, Sarat Sahu, confirmed that the intensity of the cyclone had calmed down. Meanwhile, the acting director of meteorological department in Ranchi, J S Jojo said that the state of Jharkhand could face the impacts of cyclone accompanied with heavy rain.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik conducts aerial survey of cyclone hit areas

Odisha, Oct 14 (ANI): Odisha Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik visited cyclone affected areas of worst hit Ganjam district on Monday. CM Patnaik conducted aerial survey of the cyclone hit areas- Gopalpur, Rangeilunda and Chhatrapu. Patnaik said the primary aim was to minimise loss of human lives and they had successfully managed to do so. Rajouri, Oct 14 (ANI): After Pakistan troops yet again violated ceasefire at Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday wherein a BSF jawan has been injured, GOC of White Knight Corps Lt Gen DS Hooda said that the army is ready to face the infiltrators and are giving them befitting answers. He further said that a few infiltrators are present in the Rajouri district, who will be taken care of by the army. Hooda also said that apparently, winter snow will make the infiltrators divert themselves.

Coast guard rescues 18 sailors left stranded after Cyclone Phailin

Bhubaneswar, Oct 14 (ANI): The Indian coast guard rescued 18 sailors, who were left stranded after their merchant vessel went missing in the super-cyclone ‘Phailin’. A Panama-registered cargo ship carrying iron ore was reported to have sunk in rough seas off the coast of West Bengal, but the crew was rescued later by a Coast Guard aircraft. Speaking to a journalist in Bhubaneswar city, a Group Captain in the Indian Air Force (IAF), Basant. B. Pande, said on Monday (October 14) that the 18 sailors – 17 Chinese and one Indonesian – were safe.
