Awami League goes ahead with polls nomination forms despite strike by opposition in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Nov 12 (ANI): The ruling Awami League (AL) party in Bangladesh has started selling nomination forms to its candidates for contesting the upcoming national polls, even as the main opposition BNP had called for 84-hour strike to press their demand of holding the elections under a non-partisan caretaker government. The BNP had announced the strike on Saturday after police arrested its leaders, triggering violent protests across the country. The sale of the nomination forms began with supporters of Hasina’s Awami League (AL) party pouring into the streets to campaign for their leaders.

Bangladesh advocate rules out possibility of enmity between feuding parties

Dhaka, Nov 12 (ANI): Senior advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, A.F.M. Mesbahuddin ruled out any possibility of enmity between feuding parties, as tensions mount ahead of the general elections in Bangladesh. Recently, Bangladesh's main opposition party, the BNP, refused a request from the prime minister to form an all-party government to oversee upcoming elections, setting the stage for a showdown this week that could delay or even derail the polls altogether. While talking to the reporter in Dhaka, Mesbahuddin backed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and said that she was always ready to have any dialogue with the opposition party.

The couple visited Kerala Folklore Theatre, which houses the country's largest collection of traditional performing art costumes. The royals were first garlanded and then enticed to the classical moves of Kathak, which is one of the most dynamic theatres arts in the world. The royal couple's visit ends on November 14 when they leave for Sri Lanka to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Colombo.

New Delhi, Nov 12 (ANI): Four earthquakes within a period of 3 hours shook the National Capital Region (NCR) on early Tuesday, with no reports of casualties or major damage. The first tremor of magnitude 3.1 was felt in Delhi and occured at 12:41am. Its epicentre was Delhi, according to an IMD report. This was followed by three more tremors of 3.3, 2.5 and 2.8 magnitude at 1:41, 1:55 and 3:40 AM, the report said.
