Puri, Dec 27 (ANI): Famed Indian sand artiste on Tuesday has erected a 35 feet high sand sculpture of Jesus Christ in the scenic beach of Puri, expecting to set a new world record, this Christmas. The 75 feet wide sculpture of Jesus was made using at least 1000 tonnes of sand in eastern Odhisa's Puri beach. The internationally acclaimed sand artiste, Sudarshan Patnaik, made this huge statute in just 3 days before the Christmas Eve and was assisted by 25 students. Meanwhile, tourist from across the world thronged the beach for a glimpse of the marvelous structure. This was Patnaik's gift to the tourists visiting Puri during the ongoing Christmas holidays. Kolkata, Dec 27 (ANI): Christians across various cities in India reveled in festive spirit as they sang carols in decked up churches while attending special midnight mass prayers on the Christmas Eve. Marking the annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ, Christmas is celebrated across the world on December 25. The midnight mass precedes the Christmas day and the church resounds with joyful singing of Christmas carols and thanksgiving. In Kolkata city of eastern state of West Bengal on Wednesday, devotees gathered to attend the special mass and sang carols to celebrate the Christmas spirit. A large number of people gathered at the San Thome Church in southern city Chennai and participated in the Christmas celebrations with fervor. Hundreds of worshippers also participated in a Christmas Eve mass and sang Christmas carols in western Mumbai city. The churches were decorated with colorful lights and idol of baby Jesus Christ along with Mother Mary and Joseph placed in the Christmas stable. The priests performed rituals and organized the prayer session with an aim to mark the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ. Dec 27, 2013

Bhubaneswar, Dec 27 (ANI): The eighth edition of annual crafts fair in eastern province of Odisha has become an open forum for weavers, artisans, painters and sculptors as more than 300 participants are displaying their craftsmanship at the event. The Toshali National Crafts Mela (fair) - 2013 is being held in eastern Bhubaneswar city in Odisha. The annual fair started its first edition in 2006 with an aim to bring the economically deprived weavers and artisans to limelight and provide them exposure to showcase their talent. This year, the fair revolves around the theme 'Symphony in Tassar', which depicts the state's tasar (a variety of silk) tradition, unveiling the process of the tasar production to finished products. The visitors at the fair are also fascinated by the new ideas and products being incorporated at the event this year. The fair is also hosting cultural programmes, where eminent artists and troupes from different parts of the country are performing.
