Rajnath meets religious Muslim leaders, Politicos react

Lucknow/ Patna, April 15 (ANI): Leaders from various political parties reacted over BJP President Rajnath Singh’s meeting with Muslim religious leaders. Congress leader Meem Afzal said that BJP has a dual face. Meanwhile SP leader Rajendra Chowdhary said that BJP is doing so only for the sake of votes. RJD leader Manoj Jha also condemned it saying that by holding such show-off meetings BJP is only trying to mislead the nation. Rajnath Singh met Muslim religious leaders Maulana Khalid Rasheed and Maulana Syed Kalbe Jawad.

SC recognizes transgenders as third gender

New Delhi, April 15 (ANI): The Supreme court on Tuesday recognized transgenders as the ‘third gender’. The SC also directed the Centre and state governments to treat them as socially and economically backward classes, and also to provide reservation in jobs and education and provide medical facilities to transgenders. This is one of the historic judgements by the Supreme Court of India wherein it has tried to bring transgenders at par with the status of the male and the female.

Desperate last attempt, was like a farewell speech: BJP on Sonia Gandhi's TV address

New Delhi, April 15 (ANI): Congress President Sonia Gandhi appealed on various TV channels that the current Lok Sabha polls was a fight to protect "the very heart and soul of India" from those who want to divide the people of this country. Without naming either Narendra Modi or the BJP in her telecast, Gandhi appealed to people to defeat "divisive and autocratic" forces which will "destroy" the Indian ethos. The BJP reacted angrily, with spokesperson Prakash Javdekar terming Sonia's speech a show of desperation. He also termed it a farewell speech.

Political candidates make frantic final push for votes

Lucknow/ Agra/ Amethi, April 15 (ANI): Trailing in the polls and expecting a fair amount of voter turnout, candidates of political parties contesting the Lok Sabha polls made a final pitch for votes in the race to Lower House. During an election campaign in Lucknow, BJP President Rajnath Singh rubbished media reports on Modi wave made by senior party leader Murli Manohar Joshi. Meanwhile, campaigning for Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) party candidate Amar Singh during a roadshow in Agra, actor-turned-politician and member of RLD Jaya Prada seconded Joshi’s remark. In the meantime AAP’s Amethi candidate Kumar Vishwas said he would give a tough fight to both main parties and expose their hidden agendas. The ruling Congress Party is fighting a tough election under the leadership of Party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi. The political drama has intensified in India as the mammoth election has kicked off on April 07 and would continue till May 12. Results of the elections are due on May 16.

Security tightens at Indo-Nepal border for peaceful elections

Gorakhpur, April 15 (ANI): India’s Border Security force conducted surprise security check at the Indo-Nepal international border adjoining Gorakhpur following reports of smuggling of arms and ammunition at the time of general elections in the country. The security personnel and dog squads checked the vehicles and luggage crossing over from Nepal, as lack of required equipment and vigil at the border had made it an easy route for smugglers to bring in explosives. The check was conducted to ensure that Polls are carried out peacefully in the country. Recently, two militants, who tried to cross over from the other side of the border, were arrested in Gorakhpur. The security forces have been put on high alert after the incident. Meanwhile, residents lauded the efforts and initiative taken by security personnel and have shown full cooperation with the border guards.

Fundamentalist forces pose challenge to nation's PM: Bangladesh journalist

Dhaka, April 15 (ANI): Bangladesh's senior journalist and media advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, said that fundamentalist forces, who tried to create religion based politics, pose biggest challenge for ruling Awami League (AL). While talking to a reporter in Dhaka, Chowdhury said on Tuesday that the government needs to take stringent steps to thwart any attempts of fundamentalist forces. Urging the government to execute rest of the war criminals, Chowdhury said that there should be no compromise on this issue.
