Tribal protest in Odisha against dilution of forest rights

Gajapati, Sep 17 (ANI): Tribal people from Maoist-hit areas organized a rally in Odisha, protesting against dilution of Forest Rights. A landmark law recognizing the rights of India's tribes over forest land may be diluted to clear the way for infrastructure projects such as roads, railway lines, electricity towers and irrigation canals, Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram had said. Thousands of tribal converged in Gajapati district and shouted slogans against the move. An activist, Haribandhu Karji, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government was trying to take away rights of tribes. Activists say the move indicates how the pro-business policies of recently elected Modi could hurt the environment and poor communities, including indigenous people.

Ahemdabad, Sep 17 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping receiving him and his wife Peng Liyuan with a floral welcome at Hotel Hyatt in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. The two heads will be signing key agreements in Ahmedabad. Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat for a three-day visit to India to bolster bilateral ties. Reactions flow over BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in Maharashtra

New Delhi/ Mumbai, Sep 17 (ANI): Political reactions flowed on Wednesday over the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in Maharashtra which is disputed regarding seat distribution in the state for upcoming Assembly Polls. Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that BJP and Shiv Sena are indulging in a dispute unnecessarily as they are not going to win majority and Congress will sweep major number of seats in the state. BJP leader Nalin Kohli said that both the parties' leadership is in talks regarding seat distribution and soon a decision will be taken. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that it takes time to reach a final decision regarding seats in a state as large as Maharashtra but also expressed hope that things will soon be sorted out with discussion.

New Delhi, Sep 17 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Wednesday after BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha blamed BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi for party's poor performance in Bihar assembly elections. Over 40 families lose their homes in Kashmir due to rain triggered landslides

Rajouri, Sept 17 (ANI): Over 40 families in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir are hit by the devastating recent landslides triggered by heavy rains, currently stationed at makeshift army tents and have to face harsh weather conditions ahead. Many complain they have been abandoned by authorities which have deployed security throughout the region to quell possible social unrest as a result of the floods. Residents stranded for days by the worst rains said that the army has selectively evacuated tourists and people according to a pre-set priority list, leaving locals to be rescued later by volunteers. Poor say they are still struggling for basic amenities like safe drinking water, food packets and blankets. A flood victim, Mohammad Anwer said that the army had provided them with few makeshift tents to stay but their belongings were lost and there was no food or drinking water.

India beefs up security ahead of Chinese President's visit
