Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan starrer "Piku" witnessed remarkable growth over the weekend at the box office, but on the other hand Sunny Leone's "Kuch Kuch Locha Hai" had a poor weekend.
The comedy drama film, directed by Shoojit Sircar, has recorded phenomenal opening weekend box office collection.
Due to positive buzz and strong word of mouth, the collection increased on second day and on third day the earnings doubled at the box office.
"Piku" earned ₹5.32 crore on opening day in India, on second day the collection went up to ₹8.70 crore and on third day, i.e. on Sunday it earned a whopping ₹11.20 crore. The opening weekend box office collection of "Piku" stands at ₹25.22 crore.
"Day 1: ₹ 5.32 cr ... 3-day weekend: ₹ 25.22 cr ... Just look at the REMARKABLE growth in the biz of #Piku. Proves yet again CONTENT is KING," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
"#Piku witnesses PHENOMENAL growth on Sun. Fri 5.32 cr, Sat 8.70 cr, Sun 11.20 cr. Total: ₹ 25.22 cr. India biz. Take a bow, Team #Piku," he added.
The buzz was so high over the weekend that most of the shows were almost housefull. Theaters across India experienced 95-100% occupancy on Saturday and Sunday.
Deepika, Amitabh and Irrfan starrer also opened well at the overseas box office, according to Bollywood Hungama. The US-Canada box office recorded the highest collection from overseas market. "Piku" recorded the highest opening day collection at the US-Canada box office for Bollywood films in 2015.

Here is the two-day total of the film at the overseas box office:
US-Canada: Total gross after two days is USD 490,000 (₹3.12 crore).
UK-Ireland: "Piku" earned USD 118,000 (₹75 lakh) in two days.
UAE-GCC: The film earned ₹2.80 crore on day one from the Gulf region.
Australia: "Piku" minted USD 62,000 (₹39.50 lakh) gross income from Australian box office in two days.
New Zealand: The two day gross income of "Piku" stands at USD 12,000 (₹7.64 lakh)
Malaysia: "Piku" two days earnings stands at USD 5,000 (₹3.18 lakh).
Meanwhile, actor Irrfan thanked everyone for making "Piku" a successful film.
"THANKSss to all for the success of @PikuTheFilm. Feeling Great full, hopeful, beautiful and so light. It's the victory of the audience and the new film makers who wants to engage audience on a different level," the actor, who played the role of Rana, posted on Twitter.

Leone's latest film has failed to impress moviegoers in India, resulting in a poor opening weekend box office collection. The film, which also features Ram Kapoor in lead role, earned just 2.25 crore from domestic box office.
