Oppo flagship smartphones have usually served as blueprints for OnePlus premium smartphones and it looks like we might have the first unofficial look at the OnePlus 7. Oppo unveiled the R17 Pro in China, complete with top-notch features and premium hardware.

Oppo revealed the pricing of its R17 flagship alongside the launch of the R17 Pro, which is priced at ¥4,299 (approx. Rs 43,800). The R17 comes with either 6GB and 8GB RAM, priced at ¥3,199 (roughly Rs 32,600) and ¥3,499 (around Rs 35,600), respectively. Oppo R17 Pro will be available in the country mid-October and it comes in a new "Fog gradient" colour.

Oppo R17 Pro makes for a great alternative to many flagships that are available in the market. Whether or not OnePlus draws inspiration from the R17 Pro for its OnePlus 7 flagship due for next year, the Oppo smartphone will make some waves in the industry. But we certainly hope to see most of the R17 Pro features actually make their way to the OnePlus 7.

Oppo R17 Pro's biggest USPs include triple rear camera setup, in-display fingerprint scanner, and SuperVOOC fast charging support. Let's take an in-depth look at what the R17 Pro has to offer in terms of features and hardware.

Oppo R17 Pro's triple camera setup at the back features a 12MP f/1.5-2.4 primary sensor paired with a 20MP f/2.6 secondary sensor and a third one is a TOF 3D stereo camera, which could most likely be used to capture 3D photos. On the front, the R17 Pro packs a 25MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture, which sits inside the tiny water drop design notch like we've already seen in the F9 Pro.

Speaking of the redesigned notch, it sits on a large 6.4-inch AMOLED bezel-less display with a resolution of 1080x2340 pixels and Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The 19:5:9 aspect ratio of the phone's screen makes it handy and gives an impressive 91.5 percent screen to body ratio.

Within that large AMOLED display is a fingerprint scanner that has been integrated seamlessly to help users unlock the phone just by placing the finger or thumb on the screen. From what we've seen in Vivo Nex, the performance of this new technology is quite efficient and doesn't make you miss the physical home button.

Another great feature that demands attention in the Oppo R17 Pro is the SuperVOOC fast charging technology, which was first debuted in Oppo Find X Lamborghini Edition. The best thing about it is it can charge 40 percent in just 10 minutes – the fastest we've seen in the industry so far. And the fact that Oppo decided to bring SuperVOOC to R17 Pro is a sign we will see it in more phones in the future instead of limited edition expensive phones such as Find X Lamborghini Edition.

The 50W SuperVOOC fast charging is used to power the 3,700mAh battery (or two 1,850mAh units) in the R17 Pro, which will end the battery charging woes.

Finally, Oppo R17 Pro packs a Snapdragon 710 octa-core processor with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB fixed storage. It is surprising Oppo did not pack Snapdragon 845 for its flagship, but we can expect OnePlus to use the latest Qualcomm chipset (SD855 probably?) when it plans to launch the OnePlus 7 next year.

Other features include dual SIM card slots, USB Type-C port for charging, 4G VoLTE support and Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.1. Let's wait and see what OnePlus has in store for us next year seeing how Oppo has set the benchmark.
