For so long, we've been hearing that Nokia 9 with five cameras on the back is arriving soon, but the anticipation prolonged. As we finally come to the end of 2018, there's some information on the world's first penta-camera setup smartphone that could put you on the edge of your seat.

Dubbed as Nokia 9 PureView, the first smartphone with five camera sensors on the back will set new benchmarks for flagships in 2019. According to a Russian newspaper, Nokia Anew, HMD Global is planning to launch the much-awaited flagship as early as next month.

The tipster shared a Nokia 9 PureView's concept image with the text "one month" next to it, which puts the launch time somewhere in the last week of January. Clearly, HMD is giving a pass to both CES and MWC tech events to launch its new flagship, but we can expect a prominent stall at the MWC 2019 floor in Barcelona next February.

Previous reports had also suggested that HMD would launch the Nokia 9 PureView in early 2019 following a delay due to some camera production issues.

The concept image of the Nokia 9 shows the handset without a notch and bezels on top and bottom of the display. The large selfie sensor is clearly visible and the handset is expected to boast a glass and metal sandwich design.

The biggest highlight of the Nokia flagship, however, is the penta-camera setup at the back. It's not clear what each sensor would be able to do, we can guess a wide-angle lens, depth sensor, RGB and monochrome sensors into the mix. The sensors are also arranged in a hexagon shape, which could also suggest some sort of 3D imaging support using the additional sensors. Above all, the lenses would be Zeiss branded.

Nokia 9 Pureview has fuelled rumour mills for so long, other features have also likely been tipped. The company's first flagship ever since it made a comeback under HMD's ownership is said to boast Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, but given the new timeline it would be better to go with upgraded Snapdragon 855.

Nokia 9 would feature a 5.99-inch QHD+ display, an in-display fingerprint scanner, 6GB/8GB RAM options, Android 9.0 Pie OS and a 4,150mAh battery with wireless charging support.
