We've seen the industry trends change sooner than seasons. From bezel-less displays to in-display fingerprint scanner and advanced facial biometrics, we've witnessed flagship smartphone redefine the prospect of our imaginations. One main thing that has drastically improved is the camera in those phones that is setting new benchmarks.

Huawei P20 Pro came with the world's first triple camera setup at the back – something no other brand has yet to match, but Nokia could be the first one to beat Huawei's flagship. There have been several rumours about Nokia 9 featuring a penta-lens camera setup and now there's some evidence backing those reports.

Slashleaks spotted a Nokia smartphone with five cameras. The photo isn't clear as it is seen through a glass and the reflections are partially distorting the image. But the handset clearly shows five camera sensors in a circular arrangement. Nokia's logo and Android One branding are also seen at the back of the device.

Another interesting thing that can be seen in the image is the lack of a fingerprint scanner. This could only mean Nokia 9 could have an in-display fingerprint scanner. The prototype device perfectly aligns with Zeiss' patented "Miniature zoom camera" with multiple lenses arrange in a circle. It is no secret that Nokia uses Zeiss lenses in its phones and HMD's CPO Juho Sarvikas recently visited the Zeiss lab, which now appears to be regarding Nokia 9 cameras.

As convincing as the circumstances may appear, it is still not certain that the leaked image is of the real Nokia 9. There's a good chance the secretly snapped photograph could be fake. Until Nokia comes forward with some concrete information, it is all to be taken with a pinch of salt.

The latest leak comes shortly after a mysterious Nokia smartphone appeared on China's 3C certification site. While there was no direct reference to Nokia 9, the model number TA-1131 is widely being linked to the upcoming HMD flagship, which is expected to be released sometime this year.

Rumours have outlined great details about the Nokia 9 smartphone. If true, the flagship could have 6.01-inch QHD+ AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, 8GB RAM, IP68 certification, in-display fingerprint scanner and up to 256GB storage, ceramic back and 3,900mAh battery with wireless charging support.
