Premium smartphones at competitive prices are gaining popularity in India, where smartphones like OnePlus 6 have set a benchmark for OEMs. Nokia will be joining the fight with its own smartphones and the company has already blocked the date for an event in New Delhi on August 21, where it plans to unveil "the most awaited phone."

The clouds of mystery have surrounded Nokia's upcoming event, but there are some educated guesses regarding the secretive smartphone. Reports are suggesting Nokia could launch either the Nokia 6.1 Plus or Nokia 9 at the upcoming event, but we do not know for sure which one is it going to be.

Unlike many brands that build user engagement by dropping hints about their upcoming products, Nokia follows its own pace in giving away the essential information. HMD Global-run smartphone brand has only shared some camera samples shot on its "most awaited phone" without naming it. But the camera samples suggest impressive portrait capabilities, which could either be for Nokia 9 or Nokia 6.1 Plus.

Without knowing for sure which smartphone Nokia plans to launch on Tuesday, here's what we know about Nokia 9 as well as the Nokia 6.1 Plus. Luckily, we do not have to wait long before finding out what's in store for anticipating fans.

Nokia 9

Nokia 9 is going to be a flagship smartphone with top-notch features. Rumours suggest the handset could sport a 6.01-inch AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio and QHD+ resolution. Under the hood, Nokia 9 could pack the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with 8GB RAM and generous 256GB onboard storage.

As for the optics, Nokia 9 could feature a triple camera setup at the back, comprising of 41MP wide-angle lens, 20MP telephoto lens and a 9.7MP monochrome lens, making it the only other smartphone after Huawei P20 Pro to have three cameras. On the front, the device is expected to have a 21MP shooter.

Finally, the handset could run Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box and have a 3,900mAh battery. The pricing of the smartphone is not known yet, but the specifications suggest an expensive price tag.

Nokia 6.1 Plus

If Nokia 9 isn't the "most awaited phone," the odds favour Nokia 6.1 Plus, which quite frankly has been rumoured to launch in India for a while now. Nokia 6.1 Plus is the rebranded version of Nokia X6, which gave the brand a much-needed boost despite the phone's limited availability.

The smartphone features 16MP+5MP dual cameras at the back with AI integration for smart scene detection and a 16MP front snapper that doubles as face unlock.

Under the hood, Nokia 6.1 Plus comes with a Snapdragon 636 processor, 4GB/6GB RAM, 32GB/64GB storage, a 3060mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, Bluetooth v5.0 and other standard connectivity features. In terms of pricing, the handset is likely to retail around Rs 20,000.
