Me Too: Mumbai Police books Alok Nath for rape on complaint filed by Vinta Nanda

The Mumbai Police have filed an FIR against veteran actor Alok Nath a month after writer-producer Vinta Nanda had accused him of raping her almost two decades ago.

"The case has been registered at Mumbai's Oshiwara Police station under Section 376 of the IPC on the complaint filed by Vinta Nanda," Additional Commissioner of Police (CP) Manoj Sharma told ANI.

Nanda, who was the writer and producer of teleserial 'Tara' in the 90s in which Alok Nath played a lead role, had alleged that her drinks were spiked one night and she was sexually assaulted by Nath while she was partying at his residence.

Earlier in October, Nanda had lodged a complaint with police against actor Alok Nath after she narrated her ordeal in a Facebook post in the ongoing MeToo movement. Nath's wife Ashu Singh had appealed to the court to restrain Nanda from making statements against her husband to the media. A few days later, Nath filed a civil defamation suit against Nanda, seeking a written apology along with a compensation of Re 1.

The 62-year-old actor Nath was recently expelled from the Cine and TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA) after the actor failed to show up at the body's meeting to present his case.

Alok Nath's lawyer Ashok Saraogi had denied all the allegations of sexual harassment made against his client in a response to the notice issued by Cine and TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA).
