Apple products are designed for perfection, but even the best things can sometimes be flawed. In this case, some iPhone 8 units had a manufacturing defect, which resulted in several issues ranging from unexpected restarts and frozen screen. Such issues on a premium flagship smartphone can easily tick off its users, but Apple has acknowledged the problem and promised to fix it for free.

Besides offering top-level products, Apple is known for its excellent after-sales service. By owning up its defects and offering a free fix is the best way to tackle any issue at hand. If your iPhone 8 has been acting up lately, Apple's Logic Board Replacement Program shall make up for it.

The logic board circuit consists of the CPU, main system memory and circuitry that controls the disk drive, keyboard, monitor and peripherals, IANS reported. It is clear that the logic circuit is the core component of an iPhone 8 and fixing it without Apple's replacement program can incur a hefty bill. But as long as your iPhone 8 is eligible in the replacement program, users need not pay anything for the said repair.

The free replacement program by Apple covers faulty iPhone 8 units sold between September 2017 and March 2018 and covers devices for 3 years after the first real sale of the unit. The replacement program is live in several countries, including India, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, New Zealand, and the U.S. Apple has a dedicated webpage on its support site for users to simply enter the device's serial number to check for eligibility for a free repair.

If your iPhone 8 restarts unexpectedly, freezes without reason or refuses to turn on, Apple says it could be due to the faulty logic board. To get started on the free replacement process, follow the steps below:

Find an Apple authorised service center and make an appointment. Eligible customers can also contact Apple Support to arrange mail-in service in case there isn't a service center nearby. Customers must make sure the iPhone 8 is backed up using iTunes or iCloud before handing over for the repair.

Above all, even though Apple is fixing the faulty circuit board for free, other repairs such as cracked screen must be repaired first, which will incur charges.

"If your iPhone 8 has any damage which impairs the ability to complete the repair, such as a cracked screen, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the service. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the additional repair," Apple's support document says.
