Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin's son Syed Shakeel Ahmad was arrested by a joint team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police. The team arrested Shakeel after it carried out a raid at his Srinagar house late on Wednesday night.

Reports said that Shakeel, who is employed at the SKIMS Soura as a lab technician, was arrested from his house but security agencies have still not released any information regarding the reason behind his arrest.

Security forces had earlier arrested Salahuddin's second son Syed Shahid Yousuf in relation with an alleged terror funding case and he is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi. Shahid used to work as an agricultural assistant and was suspended from his job after he was arrested in October 2017.

Hizbul Mujahideen has been designated as 'foreign terrorist organisation' by the US government. The militant outfit had claimed responsibility for various attacks.

More information is awaited.
