As Pakistan celebrated 71 years of Independence on August 14, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai also rejoiced for the nation and sported shades of the Pakistani national flag. The tallest building in the world was illuminated with the Pakistani flag and hundreds of people gathered at the venue to watch it.

Taking to Twitter, the Burj Khalifa also wished Pakistan and the expat workers in Dubai on the day along with an image of the building.

On the day, the President of the United Arab Emirates His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan also sent a congratulatory message to PakistanPresident Mamnoon Hussain, reported the Khaleej Times.

Several other UAE leaders followed suit and congratulated Hussain. Some of these leaders were His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Meanwhile, the Burj Khalifa is known to light up in colours of the national flags of countries that the UAE has ties with. The building is illuminated with the Indian flag on Republic Day on January 26, as well as, the Indian Independence Day on August 15. 

On January 26, 2017, the UAE also organised a fountain show, along with the LED show at the Burj Khalifa.

The building also sported the Indian flag in February 2018, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the nation. Burj Khalifa was lit up as a mark of respect for the friendship the UAE has with India and also to welcome Modi to the nation. 

On Wednesday, August 15, the iconic building is likely to be lit up in colours of the Indian national flag, as the nation celebrates its 72nd Independence Day. 

As part of the celebrations, New Delhi resembles a fortress with elaborate security measures in place. On this day, thousands of people gather at the Red Fort, where PM Modi hoists the national flag and addresses the nation.
