A 37-year-old HR manager of an engineering firm in Hyderabad has been arrested for killing his nephew two years ago. Bijay Kumar Maharana suspected that his nephew Jai Prakash was having affair with his girlfriend.
According to police, Maharana had killed Jai in Dwarka on the intervening night of February 6 and 7, 2016.
At the time of the incident, Maharana was working with an IT company in Noida while Jai was working with a Gurgaon-based firm.
It is reported that Jai started getting close to Maharana's girlfriend, which the latter did not like. On the night of February 6, 2016, Maharana hit Jai's head with a motor of a ceiling fan while he was asleep.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajendra Singh Sagar told IANS that Maharana then dragged Jai's body to his balcony. Jai was then buried with saplings planted on the ground to divert attention.
Maharana went to the extent of filing a missing person complaint saying that Jai went out with some friends and did not return.
Maharana stayed in the apartment for two more months and shifted to Nangloi and later to Hyderabad in 2017.
The body was found in October 2017 when some renovation work was going on in the building, PTI reports.
The house owner informed the police about Maharana. During probe, it was discovered that Maharana was missing. The accused had gone to the extent of withdrawing all the money from his bank accounts, closed them and also changed his mobile number.
He was at last found by a team sent of Delhi Police in Hyderabad on January 1.
