Marriages are said to be taking place in heaven and broken on Earth, mostly due to several unfortunate incidents couples find hard to cope with and instead decide to move ahead in life. The year 2016 also witnessed many such divorces that shocked the entire film fraternity in India.

Amala Paul - AL Vijay

International Business Times had exclusively broken the news on Amala Paul and AL Vijay's divorce after multiple sources close to the actress had confirmed their relationship status on July 23. The couple, who exchanged wedding vows in a star-studded function on June 12 in 2014, filed for divorce on mutual consent on August 6, putting an end to their two-year-old relationship.

Divya Unni - Dr Sudhir Sekharan

Malayalam actress Divya Unni, who got married to Dr Sudhir Sekharan in 2002, called it quits in 2016 after 14-year long marriage. She had been staying away from the limelight since marriage as the actress had shifted to the US. The couple has two kids -- Arjun and Meenakshi.

Bala - Amrutha Suresh

South Indian actor Bala and playback singer Amrutha Suresh's news on getting separated was made official after they appeared at the family court in Kochi in September ending their six-year-old relationship. When divorce reports about the couple had surfaced earlier in June 2015, Amrutha had slammed them calling rumours. However, Bala had then apparently given a statement to a leading daily that the couple might head for a separation. The couple has a four-year-old daughter Avantika, who stays with Amrutha.

Shanthi Krishna - Bajore Sadasivan 

Yesteryear actress Shanthi Krishna parted ways with her second husband Bajore Sadasivan after 18-year-old relationship. The couple filed for divorce on mutual consent at a family court in Bengaluru. The actress was previously married to actor Sreenath in 1984, but they called it quits 11 years later in 1995.
