A depressed IT worker committed suicide in Bangalore's KS Layout 1st Stage area on Tuesday.

The deceased, Sushma B, who hailed from Bellary, left a suicide note on which she had scribbled the words "mujhe chhor nahi" (don't leave me) over forty times on forty pages. Sushma who worked at an IT firm on the Old Airport Road was in love with Manish Kumar, Bangalore Mirror has reported.

The flat where Sushma took the drastic step was rented by Manish, also an IT professional. Apparently, Manish had vacated the house a week before a depressed Sushma killed herself. The police have been unable to track the man as the apartment's owner did not have enough information.

Sushma's father C Basappa, a senior manager with the Pragathi Krishna Rural Bank's head office in Bellary has filed a complaint against Manish at the KS Layout police station, added the report. Basappa and his family were aware of their daughter's relationship with Manish. Sushma even informed them about moving in with Manish from her PG in Indiranagar only six weeks before her death. Basappa had wanted to speak to Manish regarding the couple's wedding but never got a chance to do so.

"My daughter was under severe depression, which also affected her work. She was asked to come to Ballari and underwent treatment from a psychiatrist for a fortnight. But nothing helped as she was extremely stressed. She never spoke much about Manish and we did not force her to know more about him," the father said.

"We do not know where Manish is from. We don't have his pictures or his work place details. All we intend to know is what made her to take the extreme step. She was very intelligent and was preparing for civil services. She had cleared some of the banking exams too. We found out that Manish was already married which Sushma realised later. This could be the main reasons. However, we are not sure if he was married before. We overheard something while she was talking to him over phone while she was in Ballari," Bangalore Mirror quoted Basappa as saying.

Sushma's family suspects that Manish might have made false promises of marrying their daughter and there's also a possibility that she was being mentally and physically harassed by him. In the police complaint, Basappa has stated that Sushma might have killed herself after realising that she had been cheated.

"The victim has written the same line in big fonts on each page. We spoke to the house owner and the owner claimed that she does not have information on Manish's permanent address or employment details. His mobile phone number is switched off," the police said.

"We suspect that the suspect is either from Uttar Pradesh or Bihar. We are checking his call details to get more information. He used to stay on the third floor of the building. After her death, a few of Sushma's friends had come to see the body, but none of them are co-operating with the investigations and we are not in a position to force them. We are in the process of tracing Manish," Bangalore Mirror quoted an investigating officer as saying.

A case of abetment to suicide has been registered against Manish under section 306 of the Indian Penal Code.
