A new rumour is making the rounds suggesting that Warner Bros and DC Films wants to cast Twilight actress Kristen Stewart as the Batgirl, or at least someone like her to fill the shoes of Barbara Gordon.

The female superhero movie was previously meant to be developed by Avengers director Joss Whedon. However, coincidentally after the debacle of Justice League, Whedon chose to step down from the project stating that he couldn't come up with an ideal story for the superhero.

It was later announced that Christina Hodson has been hired to write the Batgirl movie. The new rumour suggests that the story could almost be in place and the production house could be more-or-less ready to start pre-production of the movie. The latest casting rumour has been one of the first news updates about the project since.

Speculations of the Twilight actress portraying Batgirl began when Daniel R, a Twitter user who is known to have shared DC-related rumours in the past, tweeted stating, "At WB they described the kind of actress they want for Barbara Gordon as "Kristen Stewart prototype" so I guess they really want her to play Babs."

He also further confirmed that Batgirl will not be seen in Birds of Prey. "In her solo movie, cuz she's not in Birds of Prey AT ALL," he tweeted. If the new update is true, it means the production house has a story in place and could announce the actress and director soon.

This rumour also assures that the production is bringing Batgirl. As of now, WB has four projects in the pipeline. The production house recently presented the trailers of Aquaman (set to release on December 21 this year) and Shazam! (April 5, 2019) and discussed Wonder Woman 84 (scheduled to release on November 1, 2019) at the San Diego Comic-Con. The production house has been announcing the cast of Joker slated to release on October 4, 2019.
