Encounter in Jharkhand kills Maoist, two arrested

Jamshedpur, Jan 19 (ANI): An encounter between security personnel and Maoists in Jharkhand killed a rebel and injured one policeman. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of India's paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police arrived in Jamshedpur district to track Maoists in the area. The injured police officer has been admitted to a hospital. The police also arrested two Maoists and recovered weapons. The rebels have operated for decades across a wide swath of central and eastern India, and grew in strength during recent times. Jan 19, 2015

Azizpur, Jan 19 (ANI): Three people have been killed in clashes which broke out in Azizpur area of Muzaffarpur city of Bihar after a missing boy's dead body was found buried. More than 20 houses of a community were set ablaze during a clash and at least 7 people were injured during the violence. Police and senior officials reached the spot in time and controlled the situation. Accidental landmine blast injures man in Kashmir

Rajouri, Jan 19 (ANI): A man sustained serious injuries after he accidentally stepped on a landmine, triggering blast, along the international border in Jammu and Kashmir. The victim identified as Sewa Ram said he had taken his cattle for grazing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Sarya village. Ram was rushed to the district hospital by the army personnel after giving him preliminary treatment. Doctor Abdul Salam Choudhary said that though the injury was severe but the victim's foot could be saved. It is a common practice for countries to hide landmines across their borders. Jan 19, 2015

New Delhi, Jan 19 (ANI): Delhi police busted a fake Prime Minister's Office (PMO) website and arrested mastermind Sudipta Chatterjee, said a senior officer. Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police (Crime), Ravindra Yadav, said the website pretended to offer loans to young entrepreneurs after initial deposit of some amount and was based in Howrah. Bangladeshi journalist demands speedy trial of war criminals

Dhaka, Jan 19 (ANI): Bangladesh's journalist, Shahriar Kabir emphasised on the need to expedite the trial process of war criminals of 1971 Liberation War. Kabir while talking to a reporter in Dhaka city said that Bangladesh should try alleged war criminals. About three million people were killed, according to official figures, and thousands of women were raped. Kabir said that the trial needed to be fast-tracked as many victims of the war had died waiting for justice and many accused too had died without being punished. The tribunal has convicted 16 people, most of them Jamaat leaders, and sentenced 14 of them to death. One Islamist politician was executed in December 2013. However, Bangladesh Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, has in the past denied any scope of dropping the presidential clemency for the war criminals. Jan 19, 2015
