'Janatha Garage' 1st day box office collection: Jr NTR-Mohanlal's film beats 'SGS' record, turns biggest opener of 2016

"Janatha Garage" has collected over Rs. 41 crore at the worldwide box office on the first day of its release. Junior NTR and Mohanlal's film has become the biggest Tollywood opener of 2016.

"Janatha Garage" is one of the most-awaited big-ticket Telugu movies of the year. The combination of big names like Junior NTR, Mohanlal, Samantha, Koratala Siva and Devi Sri Prasad had created a lot of hype and expectations about the film. Made on a budget of Rs 40 crore, the movie garnered lot of attention through its promos, which got positive response from the audience before the release of the film.

Janatha Garage Pre-Release Business

The global theatrical rights of "Janatha Garage" fetched a record price of Rs 67.50 crore and the distributors made grand arrangements for its release in theatres to cash in on huge hype surrounding it. They booked 1000 screens in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, around 550 screens in other parts of India, 400 screens in the international markets. The movie was released in around 1,950 screens across the globe on Sept. 1.

The overseas distributors held premiere shows in around 175 screens in the U.S. and other foreign countries on Wednesday night. Its tickets were priced at $25 and some cinema halls offered 20 percent discount. Having registered good advance booking, "Janatha Garage" opened to superb response everywhere and collected $584,225 at the U.S. box office in the previews on Aug. 31.

The Koratala Siva-directed action drama film also had good advance booking in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Karnataka and Kerala, where its screening began as early as 2:00 a.m. on Thursday. "Janatha Garage" witnessed massive amount of footfalls in the early morning shows. It ran to packed houses in many centres. The film registered decent occupancy in regular shows everywhere.

"Janatha Garage" has collected Rs. 41 crore gross at the worldwide box office on the first day. The movie has become the biggest opener for Junior NTR and Koratala Siva, beating the record of his previous release "Nannaku Prematho" and "Srimanthudu," which grossed Rs 24.45 crore and Rs 30 crore, respectively, in the global market.

"Janatha Garage" has smashed the records of "Sardaar Gabbar Singh," which grossed Rs. 40 crore at the worldwide box office on its opening day. The movie has become the biggest Tollywood opener of 2016 and the second biggest opener of all time after "Baahubali."
