Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Gujarat, Jayantilal Bhanushali, was shot dead on a train on Monday. The incident took place between Kataria-Surjabari stations when Bhanushali was travelling from Bhuj to Ahmedabad on Sayji Nagri Express.

The assailants barged into the first-class AC compartment in which the former lawmaker was travelling and shot him twice. The bullet penetrated his eyes and chest.

The train was brought to the Maliya station in Gujarat by the railway authorities and the police were informed about the murder. The train was halted for almost two hours at the station when the body was removed from the bogie.

His family has been informed about the incident. The state police have launched a preliminary investigation in the case with the help of the railway police.

The former legislator was accused by a woman for raping her on the pretext of offering her a job. He had denied the charges and claimed it to be baseless.
