Patna, Dec 23 (ANI): Even as latest trends in Jharkhand assembly polls show BJP heading in the state, JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar said that the trends show that the national ruling party is getting less than it expected in the state. Citing the public rallies and advertisement by the BJP, he said that the expectation was full sweep by BJP in the state which did not seem the case.

Congress open to alliance with PDP in JandK: Ghulam Nabi Azad

New Delhi, Dec 23 (ANI): With assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir throwing up a hung verdict, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday said it was 'open' to aligning with PDP in the state to provide a government. Azad said that the party have allied with PDP as well as with National Conference in past and it is clear that PDP will not go with BJP. He said that the Congress will align with any secular force in the state to keep the BJP at bay. He said that it was entirely for the PDP leadership to decide whether they want to go with a communal force like the BJP.

New Delhi, Dec 23 (ANI): Addressing media persons on JandK and Jharkhand assembly election results, BJP President Amit Shah on Tuesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party workers and people from both states for such performance by the party. He said that the party will form government in Jharkhand and claimed that the BJP has emerged as a relevant party in Jammu and Kashmir. Shah promised good governance in Jharkhand and said that on BJP could change the state's fortunes. Further, the party president also said that all options of alliance and forming government with the support of other parties are open for BJP but the initiative he remained would come from other parties willing to join BJP in either of the states.

Congress leader G Venkat Swamy passes away after prolonged illness

New Delhi, Dec 23 (ANI): Former union minister and senior Congress leader G Venkat Swamy passed away at a private hospital in Hyderabad. Swamy, 85, had been in poor health for some time and was undergoing treatment but on Sunday his condition got worse. Popularly known as 'Kaka', the leader was elected to the assembly of the undivided Andhra Pradesh in 1950 and held several key positions in the government as well in the party. He served in the Indira Gandhi and PV Narasimha Rao Governments and also was Pradesh Congress Chairman for Andhra Pradesh. Swamy was also elected to the state assembly twice and seven times for the Parliament. Venkat Swamy's two sons, Vinod and Vivek are active in politics and in Congress party.

Shops in Guwahati city are filled with Christmas trees, Santa Claus dolls, stars and lights, which are attracting customers from all faiths. BJP celebrates as party leads in J and K assembly elections, says 'will create new history'

Cold wave grips North India due to snowfall in upper regions

Jaipur/ New Delhi, Dec 23 (ANI): Intense cold conditions coupled with fog paralysed normal life in northern India on Tuesday as mercury dipped further due to snowfall and rainfall in upper regions. In Rajasthan, people sat around bonfires to keep themselves warm. Inclement weather condition has aggravated problems of daily wage labourers and homeless people. In capital New Delhi, trains were running behind scheduled time due to fog. The maximum temperature recorded was 15 degrees Celsius and minimum around seven degrees. Passengers said they had to sleep at railway station as the trains were getting delayed by several hours. Located in the tropics, most of India witnesses a very hot summer and a largely temperate winter.
