Army Chief praises Martyred Col MN Rai for acting brave against terrorists

New Delhi, Jan 28 (ANI): The Chief of Indian Army, General Dalbir Singh Suhag, on Wednesday praised the martyred Colonel MN Rai, who laid his life fighting against terrorists in Tral last evening. Suhag said that Rai was a brave officer and had also received awards for his quick action on Republic Day. Suhag said that army will always be acting on a tipoff to fight insurgents and protect the country from any harm. He further added that Obama's visit should not be linked with the activity as it is a routine practice of insurgents to try and infiltrate in Indian boundary.

Kejriwal gets another EC notice on 'bribe for votes' comment, Politicos react

New Delhi, Jan 28 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Wednesday after AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal received another notice of Election Commission for his 'bribe for votes' comment. BJP leader Sambit Patra said that Arvind Kejriwal is laughing at the EC's notice which proves that he is an anarchist. Congress leader PC Chacko slammed Kejriwal and said that AAP didn't make their government in Delhi earlier as they knew the fight is between three parties in Delhi and they should accept this fact. NCP leader Tariq Anwar said that no one should the violated the code of conduct of Election Commission.

US President Barack Obama's remarks on religious freedom draw reactions

New Delhi, Jan 28 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Barack Obama's remarks which emphasized on the need of religious freedom. BJP leader Sambit Patra on Wednesday said that Obama by his remarks meant that India and US have accommodated various religions and hence are successful democracies. All India Imam Organization Chief Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi also dismissed that the remarks of the US president marked a rebuke ton anyone. Congress leader PC Chacko said that Congress has been talking about religious freedom and it is for the BJP to understand. Leaders from other political parties also expressed similar sentiments.

Shazia Ilmi attacks AAP over pro-BJP allegations on Kiran Bedi

New Delhi, Jan 28 (ANI): BJP leader Shazia Ilmi on Wednesday attacked AAP over its continuous allegations on Kiran Bedi for being pro-BJP since the IAC movement. Ilmi said that if AAP already knew that Bedi was inclined towards BJP, why did it offer a ticket to her and promise to make her the face of AAP for Delhi polls. Ilmi also said that the use of Bedi's image on posters of AAP election campaign is not correct. She said that BJP can also make various allegations and put such posters during campaign.

Tamil newspaper receives terrorist threat, Condemning reactions flow

New Delhi, Jan 28 (ANI): Weeks after 14 people died in an attack at satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo's office in Paris, a threat letter for a similar attack has been received in Tamil Nadu. Condemning reactions flowed on Wednesday after a Tamil daily, Dinamalar, received a letter: supposedly from terrorist outfit Al-Qaeda, reading "Yesterday Charlie Hebdo, tomorrow Dinamalar". The letter mentions "the base moment of the Al-Qaeda" as the sender. DMK leader TKS Elangovan said that this is against the freedom of press. Congress leader Manish Tewari condemned the threat saying that freedom of press should not be attacked. Defence Expert Lt Gen (Retd) Raj Kadyan said that the investigation agencies should take note whether the threat was real or only meant to create hoax.

India, Germany hold talks on environment, climate change

New Delhi, Jan 28 (ANI): Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday said that a bilateral meeting is being held between India and Germany aiming at strengthening the cooperation between the two nations on issues related to environment. Javadekar and German Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks held discussions on various issues related to environment including climate change and sustainable development. The meeting is being held in the wake of nations preparing national plans for cutting down their carbon emissions after 2020 annually. The two-day event will focus on issues of waste and water management, resource efficiency and sustainable urban development.

PM Modi pays tribute to Lala Lajpat Rai on his birth anniversary

New Delhi, Jan 28 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai on his birth anniversary. The Prime Minister took to twitter to honour the leader. "Punjab Kesari Lala Lajpat Rai was a unique personality who was ahead of his time. I salute this proud son of India on his birth anniversary," he posted. Born in 1865, Lala Lajpat Rai was leader in the fight for independence. He was popularly known as 'Punjab Kesari' and was also called 'Sher-E-Punjab'.

Wreath laying ceremony being held for martyr Colonel MN Rai in Srinagar

Srinagar, Jan 28 (ANI): The wreath laying ceremony was being held on Wednesday for martyr Colonel MN Rai in Srinagar, who sacrificed his life while battling a group of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district. Colonel Rai was conferred the Yudh Seva medal by President Pranab Mukherjee on Republic Day for outstanding contribution in planning and conduct of operations including a gun battle with militants. General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Kashmir-based 15 Corps of the Indian army, Lieutenant General Subrata Saha said that Colonel MN Rai's quick thinking and retaliation led to death of terrorist in Tral.

Fighter aircraft crashes in Rajasthan

Barmer, Jan 28 (ANI): A MiG-27 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed in Barmer district of Rajasthan. The crash happened about eight kilometers from Barmer city, injuring a motorcyclist. According to media reports, the pilot was ejected safely from the aircraft. The injured civilian has been admitted to the district hospital. In 2012, more than half the MiG fleet of 872 aircraft were lost to crashes that killed 171 pilots.
