Nirmala Sitharaman meets Kiran Bedi, says BJP hopeful of victory

New Delhi, Feb 08 (ANI): BJP leader Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday met BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi at her residence in New Delhi. Sitharaman said that she is confident of BJP's victory in the Delhi Assembly Polls. She said that exit polls do not give exact opinion of the people's voting so BJP will wait for the actual results to be out before reaching to a conclusion.

Nitish Kumar or anybody cannot claim to form govt before resignation by Bihar CM: Constitutional Exp

New Delhi, Feb 08 (ANI): Constitutional experts on Sunday said that JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar or anybody cannot claim to form government in Bihar before Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi does not resign from his post. KTS Tulsi said that the government has come in minority and that the chief minister will have to resign for any development in the situation. DK Garg said that is the chief minister is in power, the governor will definitely have to pay heed to his recommendations. He said that the only authority that Nitish Kumar enjoys today is that he can only approach Governor saying he is enjoying majority and confidence of MLAs so that he can be kept under consideration for the post.

New Delhi, Feb 08 (ANI): JD (U) leader Mahachandra Prasad said on Sunday that the ongoing crisis regarding government in Bihar is because of the disturbance in assembly and division of opinion of ministers. Prasad said that the Jitan Ram Manjhi government has asked for some time from the Governor to extend the Cabinet. He also said that the party may split if division of opinion continues. Prasad added that Manjhi may even take support from the BJP if required to stay in government.

BJP leaders GVL Narasimha Rao, Rameshwar Chaurasia and Prem Ranjan Patel said that JD (U) Chief Sharad Yadav and Nitish Kumar are responsible for the ongoing crisis in Bihar. Mentally challenged woman brutally gangraped and murdered in Rohtak, Activists condemn

New Delhi, Feb 08 (ANI): In yet another shocking crime in Haryana, a 28-year old mentally challenged woman was brutally gangraped by a number of unidentified men and then murdered in Rohtak. Her body was then dumped along the Rohtak-Hisar highway. Social activists condemned the incident and demanded the Central government to take immediate steps to prevent any such crime further.

Baghdad residents relieved following end of city's curfew even as bomb blast kills at least 34 befor

Baghdad, Feb 08 (ANI): Residents of Baghdad enjoyed the first curfew-free night in over a decade as authorities on midnight at Sunday finally lifted restrictions on movement that had been synonymous with instability and a lack of security. A large crowd gathered at Baghdad's central Tahrir Square to celebrate the occasion as security forces kept a visible presence on the streets. Officials hope to demonstrate that Baghdad no longer faces a threat from Islamic State, the militant group which seized large areas of northern and western Iraq last year. Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, a moderate Shi'ite Islamist who took office in September, has struggled to develop a broad support base. Baghdad police chief Shaker Abdul Rida Asadi said the lifting of the curfew showed Iraq's security forces are becoming more competent in tackling the issue of violence. However, at least 34 people were killed in three bombings around Baghdad on Saturday (February 7), hours before the government was due to lift the curfew on the capital.

Visually challenged experience car driving in Mumbai

Mumbai, Feb 08 (ANI): The Blind Man Car Rally in Mumbai city on Sunday gave an opportunity to visually impaired people to experience car driving and showcase their abilities. At the rally, the sighted drivers were navigated by visually impaired individuals, with their route mapped in Braille. Around 103 visually impaired navigators were selected to drive across pre-selected city circuit. The rally, which was organised by Bombay Round Table 2, aims at making society aware of the challenges faced by visually impaired people. Meanwhile, the sighted drivers said they enjoyed helping the people in need and more such events can boost the confidence of people with disabilities. The car rally, which is an annual event, is a time distance rally and not a race. The registration amount is used for the welfare of the visually handicapped and the education of underprivileged children.

Delhi witnesses record voter turnout of over 67 percent

New Delhi, Feb 08 (ANI): New Delhi witnessed a record voter turnout of 67.08 percent as Delhiites exercised their franchise to elect a new government. Delhi went to polls for the second time in 14 months on Saturday after the last elections in December 2013 threw up a hung Assembly. Voters came out in large numbers to cast their votes and surpassed the 2013 polling percentage of over 65 percent, said Chief Electoral Officer, Chandra Bhushan Kumar. Kumar said that the polling went off peacefully. The official results would be announced on February 10.
