Lucknow/ New Delhi, Nov 1 (ANI): Backing the claim of former Punjab DGP KPS Gill that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi cannot be blamed for the post-Godhra riots, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday said that Gill's reputation as an officer has been very good, and he is absolutely correct. Gill, who had served as security advisor to the Gujarat Chief Minister in 2002, has said that Modi cannot be blamed for post-Godhra riots as it is the job of the police leadership to respond to law and order situations.

UP DGP on Muzaffarnagar: Situation under control

Muzaffarnagar, Nov 01 (ANI): Even as at least four people were killed on Wednesday evening as residents of neighbouring villages clashed in two separate incidents of violence in Muzaffarnagar district where communal clashes in September claimed more than 60 lives, UP DGP, Dev Raj Nagar on Friday said the situation was under control and security forces were doing everything to maintain peace in the region.

Syrian Ambassador denies charges of use of chemical weapons by government

New Delhi, Nov 1 (ANI): The Syrian ambassador, Riad Abbas, while interacting with media persons said that the Syrian government did not use chemical weapons. On the contrary, he said such weapons are used by rebels on their ground. He also added that the present condition of Syria is an American conspiracy to instill militancy and fear in the country. Further, Abbas also said the country is fighting against militancy aiming at freedom for the country. Meanwhile, the international chemical weapons watchdog announced on Thursday that Syria has destroyed or rendered inoperable all of its declared chemical weapons production and mixing facilities, meeting a major deadline in an ambitious disarmament programme.

New Delhi, Nov 01 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Kamaal Farooqi on Friday charged the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of adopting the Israeli trend, and not tolerating anything that goes against it. Carrying forward the war of words over country’s first Home Minister Sardar Vallabbhai Patel’s legacy, the Congress Party on Thursday lashed out at the opposition, and claimed that the RSS has threatened a senior woman journalist over critical articles. AICC General Secretary and Communications Department in-charge Ajay Maken, while reacting to BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's remark of India needs Sardar Patel's secularism and not vote-bank secularism, said that the media will lose its freedom of expression if the opposition comes in power. Maken even informed that the journalist had filed a complaint, claiming that she has been receiving threatening calls from the RSS.

Security beefed up ahead of Modi's rally in Pune

Pune, Nov 01 (ANI): The security personnel have made tight security arrangements for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's rally in Pune on Friday against the backdrop of Sunday's serial blasts in Patna. According to reports, Modi, who will arrive around 1.30 p.m., will be received by Maharashtra BJP chief Devendra Fadnavis. Several other senior Maharashtra BJP leaders will also be present at today's rally. Six people were killed and 83 injured in the low intensity blasts that rocked Patna between 9.30 a.m. and 12.45 p.m. on Sunday shortly before Modi's address to a 'Hunkar rally' in Gandhi Maidan.

Rahul Gandhi's comments were extremely shocking: Katiyar on EC notice

New Delhi, Nov 01 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vinay Katiyar on Friday welcomed the Election Commission's move to issue a notice to Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi for his speeches in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, and said the latter's comments were extremely shocking. The Election Commission has issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi for his speeches in Churu, Rajasthan on October 23 and Indore, Madhya Pradesh on October 24. The poll body has asked the Congress number two to explain by Monday why action should not be initiated against him for prima facie violating the Model Code of Conduct. The Election Commission notice also says that in case no reply is received within the prescribed time limit it will be presumed that he has nothing to say and the commission will proceed to take appropriate action without any further reference.
