DOPT will file an appeal against Gauhati HC ruling: Kapil Sibal

New Delhi, Nov 8 (ANI): Law Minister Kapil Sibal on Friday informed that the DOPT intends to file an appeal against the Gauhati HC ruling that the CBI is legally not a police force. In a startling decision which has ramifications for sensitive cases like the 2G scam, the Gauhati high court ruled that the CBI is legally not a police force and stripped it of its powers to investigate crimes, arrest suspects and file charge-sheets.

High level preparation ahead of Narendra Modi's rally in Bahraich

Bahraich, Nov 08 (ANI): BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is to address a rally in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh amidst high security as the preparation is in its full swing. A party worker at the location said that all arrangements for commuting and for security are done by the party but the local district administration is hindering the same. The district administration, which had earlier not given permission for the rally citing security reasons, issued clearance with certain conditions after midnight Thursday following a meeting with BJP district president Gulab Chandra Shukla.

Bring immediate stay order on Gauhati HC ruling to escape embarrassment: Former CBI Director

New Delhi, Nov 08 (ANI): Talking about the Gauhati High Court ruling, Former CBI Director Joginder Singh said that the government should bring immediate stay on the order in order to escape embarrassment in front of visiting foreign delegates. Gauhati High Court passed an order that says that the Central Bureau of Investigation is 'unconstitutional' and does not have powers to investigate crimes. Singh also said that the CBI has no right under the law but the final ruling will be of the Supreme Court which had assigned the agency some major scam cases in the past.

Bangladesh opposition calls for dialogue over poll-time govt

Dhaka, Nov 08 (ANI): Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia said that a dialogue over demand of election-time government could not be held because of government's reluctance to engage in talks with the opposition. Addressing her supporters through video-conferencing on Thursday, Zia said that she hoped that the government rolls back its decision on forming an all-party election time government. She also appealed to her party activists and supporters for intensifying the anti-government movement.

Jayalalitha declares world chess championship open

Chennai, Nov 08 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha declared the world chess championship open, setting the stage for a clash between chess titans. India's defending world champion, Vishwanathan Anand would take on the Norwegian Challenger Magnus Carlsen, from Saturday. This 12-match series was being organized by FIDE, the world chess federation. Jayalalitha said that an amount of 29 crore rupees has been allotted for the championship. The 43-year-old Indian chess ace, Anand, had dominated the sports and remained a world champion since 2007. 24-year-old Carlsen, on the other hand, was the youngest player to top the world rankings, when he was just 19.
